Covid Jabs hospitals... only 1 above Blackpool

I saw that and thought the same... literally nothing between Leeds and Newcastle.

Apparently it’s something to do with the ability to store large volumes at the required -70c

You tier 3 lepers have probably all had covid by now anyway 😉

Seems there is always a ‘but’ after every piece of good news these days. It’s a real rollercoaster of emotions, you start thinking normality by Spring and that we are going to win this fight but you are then always brought crashing back down to earth.

So many lives and livelihoods depend on this, don’t **** it up.

The Oxford vaccine will be the game changer. Doctors surgeries/pharmacies will be able to vaccinate.

Interesting stat I read the other day - only 300 people under 60 have died through Covid. Anyone have any data to the contrary?

That sounds like utter BS, but then I have no facts whatsoever to back that up, other than I personally know of a couple of people under 60 who have sadly passed away following covid.

Not many of us will get this one, imagine it will be the frontline staff. Oxford one will be pushed out to GPs

Did a bit of research afterwards - it is as you say.
Roughly 450 under 40 and around 4000 under 60
92% over 50

That's distribution centres for the vaccine, not hospitals where you need to go to get the injection.

James Cook will have the vaccine next week.

Mrs. Foggy’s nurse called to take blood for tests today and told us that we would get the Covid jab at our local GP’s surgery which is a few miles away in Berwick upon Tweed. We are nearly 60 miles north of Newcastle.

So the “one in Newcastle to cover the top fifth of the country” thing is bollox.

Date?

What about the thousands of all ages that have been left with long covid and life changing conditions?
In the UK, 89.5% of people who have died of Covid 19* are >65 years
96.2% are >55 years
99% are >45 years

* died of any cause, but within 28 days of a positive test

I don't know about people with long term conditions caused by Covid, but Covid is hastening the end for old people, especially those with co-morbidities. Since expected deaths among >70s in the period June 2020 to September 2020 were below the five year average, we can assume -
* that this group of people are taking good care of themselves
* that some of them would have died anyway, regardless of Covid.

I saw those numbers yesterday - quite an eye opener. And, the numbers are rounded up - 0.7% deaths under 40.
If the 60k number of total deaths is current that’s 420 deaths under 40, All sad but we really ought to have this in the public domain to determine whether it is really sensible to get ‘everyone vaccinate’.

You may find that as the vaccinations are drip fed into the population into the most vulnerable the need for national vaccination reduces anyway.

There are limited supplies of all of the vaccines so it wont be a quick process even if they regulate all of pfizer, moderna, oxford/astrazeneca, novovax and the others yet to announce results.

I'm sure if you look at the figures for polio for asymptomatic, impact on the majority you could make a case for not vaccinating a population, especially deathrate. For those that get it however the long term symptoms are life changing.

Anecdotally we have two staff on long term work absence now due to this who were great workers and in pristine health prior to catching covid. They had mild symptoms virally, but post viral fatigue has limited their ability to leave the house and function in the short term. Slow recoveries.

I wonder what the implications of vaccinating areas instead of individuals across the country world be.

Enough vaccine for 400,000 protects 400,000. Vaccinate a large proportion of Leeds and Sheffield protects a million people.
