Aren't they adjustable by setting the gap between the blades?

It is, but the coarsest setting is still much finer than what I got used to.

It's probably one of those funny things, where I've just got used to something rubbish.
Or the new grinder is crap itself.

We use Malden sea salt flakes, no idea why, Mrs H insists on it but salt is just salt NaCl right?

Maldon is the best salt in the world!

The best cheap grinder is the Ikea spice mill. Worth £5 of anyone's money. Coarse or fine, if you like big chunks of pepper this is the one.

Salt is salt, but it's much easier to pick up to chuck it in your food if it's in flakes than if it's a powder.
