Dassault falcon 20 just landed at teesside

I noticed a military plane when I took the dog out yesterday, flying over Norton, about dinnertime, looked like it was coming into land

They've been at Teesside airport for years. Before Cobham Aviation they were operated by FRADU - Fleet Requirement And Direction Unit. We used to see them every Tuesday afternoon and all day Thursday with the RN under the direction of Flag Officer Sea Training, usually carrying out the role of airborne electronic warfare units, and simulation of air to surface or surface to surface missiles.

Thursday war day, Lemme. Have flown with FRA and also tasked them against my RADAR back in the day. They fly a nice box of tricks, got a few mates who are crew at the moment.

many years ago (over 25, crap) I worked for FRL, sister company of FRA at Cobhams HQ. always fancied getting a job with FRA (then based at bournemouth and teesside airports) and cadging some lifts, would have saved many long trips in my nissan almera when dating my borobird.....

First time I did Thursday wars it was with the Hunters and a Canberra was doing the EW stuff.
Also did an ADEX with the last Buccaneer squadron

Cobham changed to Draken several years ago. They fly the Falcon and the Honey Badger out of Teesside, doing “Red air” stuff against the RAF and USAF. Basically they act as the enemy

Oh the memories of FOST!
Enough to make your toes curl.
I was lucky enough to win a FOST commendation for doing a role outside of my expertise during a BOST when serving on RFA Argus. I basically wore three hats on there, Met Office manager, sporto and the ship’s Weapons Director. Apparently, when I announced “Alarm Aircraft” in my comms set, the PWO in the ops room nearly shat himself! This highly amused the FOST staff, enough to recommend me for a citation 🤣
