Manager John Neal gave Hodgy the No12 shirt for the 3rd time that season, including one game when he started as No9, it was his 4th appearence

John Craggs had picked up an injury in the 2nd half & was replaced by Hodgy, who promptly scored the equaliser to bring the score level at 1-1, the game finished a draw & stopping our losing away run, which went back to the 27th October

One from my collection of press photos, Hodgy trying to get hot headed Cochrane from getting a good beating

Hodgson in the Holgate.
v WBA FAC 1981, we won 1-0 with an Ian Bailey 35 yarder thunderbolt that nestled in the top righthand corner of the Net, with the keeper clutching at thin air as the holgate suckled the ball in

Well that's what he'll be telling his grandkids with no cameras there on the day, we all know it was a daisy cutter from just outside the box were the keeper could have throw his cap on it but somehow it went under Goddens body for the only goal if the game

Top player and throughly decent man. How he coped with George Reynolds at Darlo and maintain his decency only he knows.
He has some really scary stories none of which can be told while George is still with us.

Great era for me, Hodgson, Proctor, Armstrong etc, should have actually achieved a lot more than we did, the team was very good.

Big Jack always said we were two signings away from the being Champions. Nobody liked coming to Ayresome. We played hard fit solid football. As a schoolkid kid watching it was magical, for me better times than the Robson era.
