David Hodgson - Under the Cosh

I think it was common knowledge he was going to Liverpool whether we stayed up or not.
As you said, he stayed a season longer than the other 'jewels', Armstrong, Proctor & Johnston.
Not sure why that was.

After his last game of the season against Liverpool he was carried off the pitch on fans shoulders (Boro fans, not Liverpool :))
Yes 15 year old me amongst those on the pitch :ROFLMAO: Very strange pitch invasion that one, sort of defiant that we'd gone down but would be back feeling

I remember him getting collared trying to climb over the fence at the end of the West Brom cup game. With his wedge haircut he looked like every other Joey on the Holgate.
No he really didn’t.
Coolest bloke in the Boro by light years.

True. I remember a rousing and confident rendition of "We'll be back again next year" at the end of the match.
A naive 16 yr old me truly believed it and sang it with gusto.

"Nothing Boro related, but the funniest episode by far is referee Kevin Lynch. A natural comedian and must be seen."

Kev was in the next room to me at teacher training college back in 1973/74.
Remember Kev well.

Enjoyed that.

He is absolutely right about George Reynolds being a wrong-un. I had a bizarre impromptu meeting with him once and had several dealings with him when he was having a new private office/penthouse built in Shildon at his factory.

Definitely a character, who could be pretty nasty.
I've become a bit obsessed with finding out about him recently, after watching the vlog a youtuber had made, 'the stadium that bankrupted a football club'.

I visited the Darlington arena recently and couldn't believe how run-down it had become. Such a waste.

Reynolds definitely came across as an interesting character. Apparently if he took a liking to you he could be incredibly generous, but he wasn't somebody you wanted to get on the wrong side of.

I'll have to ask Sean Greagan about his take on the contract negotiations next time i see him. Good lad Sean. Went to school with him, he was a the year below me but I still see him post in Billog now and then.
