Deal accepted for Morgan Rogers.

My concern is the manager is trying to build a promotion squad, it must be disheartening for Carrick and the coaching staff and having to accept - OK there's not much we can do but let him go.

We have a 3 or 4 players who have promise, can we keep them? I don't think we can.

I don't normally get easily disillusioned, I just feel that way at the moment.

Still sparks me as a very strange move from Villa. I think we can all agree the last 7/8 games Rogers has certainly stood out but he did take a long time to settle. The fact he was their number 1 target is weird. Will he go straight in? You wouldn't of thought so. The transfer of £10m upfront plus add-ons isnt a large sum of money for a team like Villa so its worth a punt, I wonder if they have looked at the impact Cole Palmer has made and basically its a no lose situation for them. I wish him well, I will certainly be sadder when Hackney flys the nest but the 'model' is working as long as we keep striking gold. Fair play to Kieran Scott and everybody concerned. Looking forward to the next couple of years as long as we can keep Carrick

I'm like a stuck record here but I don't think he did struggle at first, I think the team struggled and he was made a scapegoat for the team struggling.
Take the Coventry away game right at the start of the season, second half in particular he was the best player on the park, set up about 5 chances all of which we contrived to miss. I'm not blowing my own trumpet (I obviously am) but I've been saying since August how good he obviously is, especially potentially.
Sad to see him go, but it probably makes sense financially, I'd be happier still if we got a Striker in before the window shuts.

Poor from us - add ons that never get added on no doubt. We will end up with about 6m profit which in the grand scheme of things is nothing. If he does well then his value will be at least double this figure we’re supposedly getting
If he does well we get the full fee with the addons.

You risk putting words in MCs mouth there. Is there any reason to believe MC is anything but fully onboard with our transfer model?

I don't blame you for feeling disappointed, but it's no reason to assume others feel the same as you.

I know that this is how things work when you are a second tier club, but this is the second consecutive season Boro have had to sell their best player ?

I heard it was 8 million plus 7 million in tampons, but then my hearings not very good.

Villa look to have been taking a leaf out of my football manager playbook.

Instead of a straight 10 million for your 19 year old zambian wonderkid how about 500k up front plus £50million after 50 appearances that he will never make. Stick him on loan for a few years then flog for £40 million. Jobsagoodun.

I can deal with selling our best players, it’s mid-season after 6 months where I get annoyed at the club. I can’t think of another club who’s signed a player in the summer and sold him in the winter window.

Cue endless threads of Villa not treating him well when he's not in their first team.

You can see it now when he's not getting a game 'Free the Villa one'.

Was my guess of 10-12 million plus add ons correct then? Here's another for you. Hayden Hackney will be sold for 10-12 million plus add ons.

I would/will be more upset when Hackney leaves but we've all known that could and will happen at some point in his career.

I suppose so he understands life in there better than me. He may well be out of the same mould as Mark Robins and just get on with it. With any luck I hope Carrick commits to staying for a good while, I've enjoyed our football it can be good to watch and felt like we are making progress as a club.

The article is not written in a way that suggests its guesswork. These journalists are regularly tipped off by legitimate sources.
But they also know that even if they make up a figure no one will ever come out and say "that's utter piffle the actual fee was £6mill and a box of Lego"
