Devastated…

I must admit, 10 minutes into the second half I started to get a sinking feeling. It just didn’t feel like it was meant to be tonight.

We’ve had some unbelievable highs and some lows this season. Being 3-0 down to Cardiff at home under Wilder was a major low for me. If you’d have told me this is where we’d end up then I wouldn’t have believed you. We looked so far off it.

I think it’s very easy to target and pin point players and say they aren’t good enough etc. in time like this but I don’t think that’s fair. Across the whole of the season we haven’t been good enough overall but there’s been some outstanding performances amongst that.

I do think we peaked slightly early. In that run where we smashed Sheff Utd. We looked unstoppable. Some of the football has been a breath of fresh air and hugely entertaining. We just weren’t able to sustain it.

I do think the injuries towards the end of the season took the wind out of our sails. Ramsey was starting to make a huge impact for us. Howson injury was a killer. He gives us so much all across the pitch, and Hackney feeds off him too.

Tonight just wasn’t meant to be. Not the type of night we are used to at The Riverside. I do think we’ve got a brilliant foundation to build on. Gutted at the moment though. Think I’ll be avoiding the football for a few months. Not a chance I’ll be watching next Saturday.

Carrick has done a fantastic job though. Let’s hope we kick on again next year. UTB!
