I tried it with an old Golf I used to own. Got told by the claims company they couldn't help me as I bought the car from a independent dealership. Apparently they only dealt in claims for cars bought from main dealers and from brand new.

Similar, I had a ‘60 Seat Ibiza. I bought it second hand 3 years old from a garage in Wallsend. I was with S&G and also got 1,700. VW settled May/June. It did not have to be from a main dealer just as long as purchased it before a certain date.We joined the initial claim about 2/3 years ago for a 2011 VW polo ( bought from Arnold Clark a year old),We no longer own the car and received £1700 when the court case was settled prior to the case. We used Slater and Gordon’s I think.
