Do you do martial arts?

Started work on the door about a month ago and I think I need to start some form of martial arts training, we had an incident of a 14 year old with a knife round the corner from where I was last night, got me thinking I need to do something better to protect myself.

What martial arts do you do, if any?

Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Be careful however as you'll start to bore anyone within earshot about it!!

In all seriousness though, it's absolutely perfect for your job and an incredible thing to learn even just the basics of (y)

Completely agree, Mrs Priv and I both train in Jiu-Jitsu. We have loads of fun sparring together ( submission only), she’s far better technically than me but my size and strength level the playing field.

ITF Taekwon-do. Big elements of self defence in that, but it's all part of a curriculum and to be honest the stuff you'd find useful isn't anything you'd learn early on. As a beginner you'd be focusing more on basic techniques and movement.

I do a lot of self defence against knives but that's advanced stuff I'm doing as a second degree black belt. Would really recommend it for anyone interested, but from what you're saying I think you need something more specifically focussed on learning self defence in a hurry.

Did Aikido, jujitsu (japanese) and boxing.
Aikido is really good for some aspects ...distance, body management, positioning (for multiple attackers) and the more subtle art of manipulating/diffusing a situation.
If it gets a bit hectic... jujitsu and boxing can be better suited.
Nowadays Brazilian jujitsu seems to be de rigeur .... though if you're having to use ground grappling skills in a door situation, something has obviously gone badly wrong.
