Yup, even if this isn't career ending, practically for this season we just have to act like he isn't even our player. Would love to see VDB wow us and nail the place down, but we need more options.

Nine months is a long time which is concerning.

I would agree need to plan without him if he is still struggling now. This means bringing in an experienced defender urgently for Clarke and a left back for me either Giles or another. We currently have three experienced centre halves, one of which is not fully fit (Fry). Left back there is one squad player (Coulson). Right back - Smith and Dijksteel. We do have a young Dutch defender but he has little experience so we don't know at all how he will cope, hopefully he will adapt and develop quickly.

Completely agree. Djiksteel can play there too. Whilst it's important to have a strong bench with five subs you weaken your first xi if you spread your cash too thinly. There also must be opportunities for the kids to break through. Only need someone if McNair is off.
