EM's purchase of Twitter

I've just finished reading the below article about the purchase of Twitter and some of the misconceptions that have been reported around the sale.

It's a very interesting read and brings up a lot of questions, not least why we are allowing these very rich Men to dictate the path of humanity. Their justifications for using their wealth to move human society in a particular direction in the future rather than looking to solve current crisis is an eye-opener. Futurism just sounds like a planet sized version of trickle-down economics, to me. Spunk a load of dosh on something for a few people in the hope that, eventually, it'll help everyone.

Musk is exactly the sort of person that ends up unintentionally becoming a villain in some dystopian sci-fi film. He thinks he has all the answers and due to his wealth he also has the ability to mess with things to achieve his agenda. He isn't necessarily evil but he can be arrogant, ignorant of the reality most people live in, manipulated by people that are evil or eventually cause mass misery when his assumptions end up being wrong.

I'd suggest reading the article, as that is NOT what Dorsey has done. Quite the opposite.
Bluesky is developing an open protocol, it was started by Twitter but is now an independent foundation. Dorset himself was Twitter's founder and CEO until Musk took over.

Which bit specifically are you objecting to?

The implication that as Dorsey has left Twitter that something "interesting" is going to happen. Bluesky is a project that would either replace Twitter or make it a more universal protocol. He's collaborating with Musk, he pushed Musk to purchase Twitter and all for the reason outlined in my original linked article.

They are two cheeks to the same ****.

Control of the media is the objective. Not dissimilar to various right wing groups trying to defund the BBC, sell off C4 (which will only benefit the RW Government). Couple that with allowing the spread of lies unchecked and we have a very dangerous future indeed.

As I said he’s one hollowed volcano away from a Bond villain

he even has a Bond villain name.

That wasn't what I meant, I meant interesting in the sense of I am curious to see what develops next, he is an entrepreneur after all. Blueksy to me sounds similar to the Signal protocol development. I'll follow it with interest.

Sounds to me like the idea of open source without the open bit because Musk would be able to decide what is allowed or not. Basically, he doesn't like that certain views gets censored. I don't think he's worried about all views being censored, just ones he agrees with and he doesn't want a corporation deciding what should or should not be censored. Obviously, you either have censorship or you don't. If you don't then it is unusable because it becomes a place where anything goes and that isn't suitable because you end up with child porn and all other sorts of dark web type material. The alternative is some censorship which follows certain free speech rules but why would one person (billionaire megalomaniac) be better at deciding what those rules are than a corporation that can be held accountable by governments and regulators?

Independent is reporting Musk has dissolved the board at Twitter and made himself 'sole director'. What could possibly go wrong?

For anyone who's played Horizon Zero Dawn, pretty sure Ted Faro is based on Musk.
