End of “working when ill culture”

Matt Hancock wants to end the British culture of working when ill.
I recommend the catchier title of “Ending global conglomerate companies denying their employees basic human rights suck as sick pay”

The cheeky moron should lift the restrictions stopping people from carrying out their daily jobs before passing such 'cultural' comments.

Good luck with that with the 'falsely self-employed' such as couriers who have no employment rights whatsoever. They'll just carry on working.

Plus of course the companies they 'work for' avoid National Insurance payments that should fund this sort of thing.

Hasn't Hancock read Britannia unchained?

A book penned by a gaggle of his fellow Tory MP's , Dominic Raab, Priti Patel, Kwasi Kwarteng, Chris Skidmore and Liz Truss.

One of the quotes in the book is this....

"The British are among the worst idlers in the world. We work among the lowest hours, we retire early and our productivity is poor. Whereas Indian children aspire to be doctors or businessmen, the British are more interested in football and pop music"

They're about as far removed from the real world as it's possible to be,

A Tweeted reply from the TUC

Health Minister Matt Hancock says British people are 'peculiarly unusual' in going to work when sick.

The reason for this?

Proportion of salary covered by sick pay:

🇩🇪 100%
🇧🇪 93%
🇸🇪 64%
🇳🇱 56%
🇪🇸 42%
🇬🇧 29%

It's time to raise sick pay to a living wage of £330/week.

Having spent a large proportion of my working life as a contractor I have gone in to work lots of times when very ill. Most places don't pay you a penny unless you go in and get sent home. One company I worked at said the sickness rates for contractors was nearly 20x smaller than full time staff. It is the employers in this country that force this behaviour, most other civilised countries don't treat their work force like this.
