Everton’s run in

Absolutely. Everton have little "status" in the Pl except a team that annually struggles in the lower half. In fact its about time they went and there would little shock - celebration yes.

Bit harsh. They've finished top half in 14 of the last 20 seasons.

It would be interesting to see them go down though. On the whole, I don't see it happening. While I don't see them getting too many more wins, I'm not sure Leicester or Forest will pick up more. Certainly that match at Leicester will be crucial. However, I think BOurnemouth at home last day is potentially a nice one for Everton to finish on if Bournemouth are already safe.

Ok a bit of a loose artistic licence. They do seem to struggle every season now though. The last trophy they won was 28 years ago. Their big club status was lost some time ago.

I’m talking about the owners the power men as make no mistake they have been ( well kenright) at the top table of football in this country for well over century with one small break.

Look at their new stadium.

Btw I never compared them to Milan I’m saying when things that don’t usually happen in football like the powers that be are threatened then things change.

There looks a distinct possibility based on those fixtures.....but you just get this sneaky deja-vu feeling they will finish 17th on GD and stay up simply because there are three worse teams in the PL.

The Leicester game is the proverbial relegation 6 pointer if ever I saw one.
I think they're going down, as I think 3/4 of the bottom 4 are going down, and think dysfunctional Forest and also Leicester will finish above them. So, Second bottom for me, above Southampton.

I'd say they miss Calvert Lewin, but even he's overrated, or at least he was, and he wasn't scoring when he has played this season either.

A lot of their players look alright in an alright team, but they're not alright, they have no match winners or any players who would get in most other sides.

Unfortunately I think they will survive but would be great to see West Ham and Everton relegated. Forest look knackered have a really tough run in

Whoever goes down, this might be a very good year to get promoted - Forest will smash the league next season IMHO, Leicester have owners with deep pockets, Southampton could crumble but top 2 next season would be out of reach for any current championship clubs, then there is Watford, West Brom and Norwich who should all improve next season. Could be an especially good year to go up.

Not to mention Stoke who will be strong as well m

Every year we tell each other that next year will be much harder, and every year the standard stays about the same.

Forest being relegated would be interesting; while they'll recoup quite a lot of their Summer outlay by selling the likes of Johnson, I'd have them as the best bet for a double dip relegation since Sunderland.

Leicester's owners have financially suffered particularly badly through Covid; I think their reported annual losses were over £100 million.

I also doubt Norwich will improve that much: they're losing Pukki, who was a key factor in their title winning seasons, and you can't just replace a goalscorer like that.
Stoke's recent good run also seems to have ended.

The challenge for us would be maintaining the form we've had under Carrick; it really has been smash the league sort of form.

And every year the promotion places are made up of recently relegated teams - hence all the talk about reform to parachute payments and the fact they are distorting the league

It's too soon to say of course, but we might see the importance of parachute money reduced now that all the other clubs have got their income running again psot-covid. It certainly had a distorting effect during covid and in the immediate aftermath. Immediately before covid, recently relegated teams were struggling to bounce back in the way they had in the 00s and early 10s.

It looks like Watford and Norwich won't make the playoffs this season. OK, Burnley have stormed the league; however, you'd have to go back decades to find a time when the relegated teams weren't amongst the favourties for promotion.

It appeared to my inexpert eye that in order to attract players to a recently promoted side Forest were paying over the odds in nearly every transfer that they made. And they made a LOT of transfers. Recouping that is not going to be easy if they are relegated, by and large the signings have rarely impressed in the PL so why would there be a rush to sign them? Big losses in coming...

As you say they could easily double dip rather than smash.

Lester are not (currently) cash rich, their owner called for "patience" at the beginning of the season IIRC, whether this would extend into the next season, who knows? In contrast to Forest though they seem to have a squad that with a few careful additions and the sale of some of the bigger names like Maddison could be a force in the Championship

If it is the same every year why is this season 'particularly good'?

Southampton / Leicester / Forest don't look any more intimidating than Burnley / Watford / Norwich.
Or Fulham / WBA / Sheff Utd before them.
And so on.
OK, Everton might be a bit different but they won't do any better than Burnley have this season.

I imagine as usual there will be:
- A team clear in first place.
- 2 or 3 teams in touch of second place.
- Another 6 or 7 teams fighting for the play offs.

In fact, I think our play-off season was a bit of an exception. With 4 teams vying for the top two places until the last couple of games.
