Everton's Run in

Two oppisites here, Everton as made out by the media as a sleeping giant of big club, never in the the greed is good PL pundits as a team to struggle/go down & who, struggle season on season & Burnley, a team who are in the group of teams fighting to stay up season on season & against the odds, do it successfully

Unfortunately, I can't see Burnley or Watford sadly getting enough points to relegate Everton
I admire Burnley & Dyche for their continued fight to stay in the PL so Everton must be counting their lucky stars they have 3 teams below them who cant buy a win to mount an escape

If you look at Watfords fixtures compared to Everton, they have an outside chance

Unfortunately the 3 at the bottom are absolutely cack. I can't see any of them winning enough games.

If they beat Burnley on Wed you'd think they would be alright? Although nothing to suggest they will.

I'd love a Leeds / Everton or mags to drop. Just don't see it. I think time is finally up for Burnley.
The security guard from the Dundas has finally sat down wheezing on a pallet of compost whilst watching the scratter he was chasing disappear into the distance.

The first half a season was OK for a newly promoted team, it fell apart badly though. Up to and including the 3-0 win vs Swansea I thought we had a chance to stay up, we looked well organised and maybe lacked a bit of creativity, but we did have Traore, Gaston and Negredo who were all talented and could create/score.

Late Oct to early Dec we seemed to be coming good:
- Got a 0-0 away to Arsenal that we should have won when Traore tore them to shreds
- Beat Bournemouth 2-0 the next game with a great Gaston goal
- Then we went to Man C and got a great draw
- Next a tight 1-0 loss to chelsea
- A 2-2 draw away to a top Leicester side after leading twice
- Beat Hull 1-0
- Lost 1-0 away to Southampton
- Got battered of liverpool 3-0
- But bounced back beating Swansea 3-0

At this point we looked solid defensively, we had 19 points in 17 games, we had only conceded 19 and had 5 cleansheets, Negredo had 5 goals, we were playing ok.....but then we went 16 league games without a win. But more than half of that was under Agnew
De Roon’s rash challenge in added on time at Leicester to give them the second equaliser could have been a bit of a sliding doors moment. Win there and we are looking comfortably towards mid table. For me we seemed to lose it after Christmas when we couldn’t score, nil nils at home to Leicester and Everton etc…., really after Gaston decided he was off we had no creativity. We still might have got closer if we hadn’t ‘gone with Agnew’, we certainly wouldn’t have leaked four at Hull or Bournemouth with Aitor!

Burnley have massively overachieved to stay in the premier league for the past 4/5 years. Hardly spend any money on transfers, sell players and probably relatively low wages and agents fees. Really a championship club in the premier league. They were in need of a rebuild last summer and definitely will be this year, regardless of whether they stay up or not (I think they will go down). I quite like Dyche and think he has done a good job at Burnley and would be better off starting again at a new club with more ambition.

It's a good point and whilst I get why Gibbo got rid of Karanka I'll never understand why he went with Agnew when the right appointment could have kept us up!
We were in a mess over Xmas, the local press really turned on Aitor Karanka which I thought was a bad idea seen as we didn’t have any alternatives. Our recruitment (Victor Orta) had identified David Wagner as a suitable replacement to take over.. which he turned down preferring to stay at Huddersfield. Jese, Bojan & Snodgrass were all linked around that time but all failed as a result of poor recruitment. Deulofeu was mentioned.. but apparently we lost out on him early on in the season and opted for Traore. Bojan was to be a permanent transfer which was lined up but meant losing Ramirez to Leicester which Karanka wouldn’t go for. Snodgrass went to West Ham for £10.2m over us and Jesé moved to Las Palmas after we dragged our feet.

Bringing in Bamford £5.5m, Gestede £6m & Guedioura for £4.5m was utterly bizzare £16m on players that could not cut it it the premier league. Our all singing all dancing recruitment team had failed spectacularly and the choice to put Steve Agnew in the hot seat secured our fate and threw away the season in one fell swoop.

What could have been!

Marcelo Bielsa?

Ravel Morrison?

Mario Balotelli?

and one other?

Not so sure myself, I tend to think of him in the same bracket as "Big Sam' and we all know how it was pretty much business as usual when players all over the country rushed to join 'Sam Allardyce's Newcastle revolution'.

Just think he's better suited to "plucky clubs punching above their weight" than clubs with clout in the transfer market.

Bamford wasn't too bad a move for the fee involved. He clearly had talent, it was only his extended getting up to speed and the management he had after AK that was the problem, plus he was a fans' favourite so would be given grace.

As for the carthorse that was Gestede and the bloke from Watford though....dear, oh dear...

Great result tonight, keeps it interesting at the bottom.

Hopefully Watford beat Leeds on Saturday to make it really interesting.

Am a big admirer of Dyche and Burnley. All season have said I’d never write them off, and if anyone has the experience and calmness to get out of relegation trouble, it’s them.

Have said this before but what I most rate about Dyche is that he goes through sticky patches where they can’t get a result for love nor money, and turns it around, season on season, with the same players.

Especially with that route one, underdog style of football, it’s one thing to do it and have success at first as a novelty team, it’s another thing altogether to keep at it when results turns sour and with the same squad, turn things around. It’s happening again now. Most managers can’t, especially down the bottom, which is why they get fired so often.

If anyone’s getting out of relegation trouble, it’s Burnley. They’re mentally rock solid and if you’re scrabbling for points, I’d rather have a gritty team that can shut up shop than whatever the hell Everton, Watford and Norwich are.

As for Everton… It’s mad that someone like Lampard can fail upwards into a job as big as that and Chelsea. To pick three unglamorous names, I reckon Wilder, Dyche and Dean Smith would surely do a better job - but that’s football.

That being said, if we don't go up this year then there's no way I want Everton or Leeds in this league.

That wouldn't be interesting in the slightest under the circumstances. That would be $hit.
