Was lucky enought to catch Ezra Furman at the Brudenell last night.

What an unreal gig. The new songs are instant classics. Sounds like the new album is going to be great.

The gig had everything from 60s girl band to punk to 80s stadium rock. Ended with a quality version of Because the Night which was a brilliant way to round off one of the best gigs I've seen in a long long time.

She's is now added to my every growing list of "Why the hell are they not more popular". So talented with one of the most distinctive voices around.

Two dates coming up in November. Catch her if you can, you won't regret it.

Didn't realise that Ezra had become a she. In April 2021 apparently. Also didn't realise the she was playing the Brudenell last night either. Gutted to miss that. Wouldn't care I get updates from them. Musy have missed it. She is absolutely superb. Remember the Westgarth show which was utterly superb.

At least from reading your post I found out she is back in the UK in November (y)

Hope you manage to get to see her. Can't praise the band enough. She has ditched the saxophone player but got a new lead guitarist who was brilliant and freed up Ezra to put everything into being up front and centre. One of those gigs I can't stop thinking about.

I was there last night. I can only echo the OP. Superb gig.

Great venue, the Brudenell. Twilight Sad were on in the other room. Seeing them tonight at the Georgian Theatre (y)

I did think about this gig when tickets came on sale, but midweek is difficult with childcare. She’s brilliant (and good to hear still on the Springsteen covers - done Thunder Road and Hungry Heart previously).

Pleased youse had a good time, in a great venue.

My missus will be glad the sax player has gone, she always thought he was too prominent on stage!

And Promised Land according to the Youtube wormhole you've now sent me down! Her cover of Thunder Road is a unique take on it!

Last night made me more gutted I couldn't make her Westgarth gig a few years ago, which I think was in the small room too. No wonder people who saw that kept telling me how much I'd missed out. Gits :D

Guitarist was brilliant, as were the whole band.

I think it says everything about Nathan Clarke as a promoter and the Brudenell as a venue that Furman was only over to do the Green Man Festival and the Edinburgh Festival (plus squeezing in a session for Marc Riley), but decided to fit in that one small venue gig prior to the album coming out. Sell out of course last night.

We have our own promoters on Teesside who are doing the same and really should be treasured and supported by the public, local businesses and especially local councils. Stockton do a good job recognising the value and service of these guys and backing live music, but Middlesbrough Council are poor really.

Nathan is an absolute legend. What he has done there over the last 20-yrs is nothing short of incredible.

Like you say he must have so much respect in the industry given the names that he manages to attract there even long after they have outgrown the venue. That respect can only come from how well he treats people, all the while working for no profit and pumping everything back into the venue.

Leeds is very lucky to have him
