FAO seafood lovers - best seafood restaurants in the area (Whitby/Cleveland)

For a takeaway (you can sit on the seafront or park opposite) Latimers at Whitburn (north of Roker, ok I know it’s not Teesside) is great. Used to do a sit in as well but closed it during Covid🙄

Another vote for Seaview in Saltburn.. the Crab Brioche is fantastic.

There’s also Estbek House in Sandsend, not cheap but highly rated.

Slightly further afield but worth it is rileys fish shack at tynemouth.

I'm loathe to right this and please don't tell anyone else as it's a bit of a hidden gem but No.20 in Port Mulgrave is exceptional and by a long way the best in the area.

Notable mention for the Cod and Lobster in Staithes and although not a pure seafood place the fish option at the Eskdale is always excellent.

As for Riley's Fish Shack in Tynemouth the food is always very good and the outdoor rustic concept really enjoyable I found having a £30 piece of turbot on a cardboard tray with a wooden fork a bit of a mish mash, so I tend to use Riley's Fish Shop for dinner and the Shack for snacks and lunch.

The fish platter in the Rose and Platter in Marske is excellent.
I like Trenchers in Whitby. The fish is always excellent, the chips can be hit and miss but the Staropramen makes up for them.

i would caution against eating anything with a scale or a crust brought up from the seas around the north east.

apart from the water company's flooding the seas full of human waste - the dredging of the beds is committing the Sealife to wholesale poisonings and death by poison.

don't shoot the messenger, i didn't vote tory.

There isn’t much chance of that
Around 90% of fish we eat now comes in via Grimsby but is fished miles away outside our filthy waters
