Not sure it's a sequel as such, but That Riviera Touch with Morecambe and Wise was vastly superior to their first effort The Intelligence Men. But being one of the finest films ever made that's not surprising.

The sequel was rolled out every year at junior school. The education authority must have bought the rights or something.

I think it's technically a better film due to the telling of 2 joined stories, but I still enjoy watching the original more.

Empire and 2 Towers I agree with.
I'd think the 3rd film is the weakest in all these trilogies.
