Forss and McGree out for the season

Hardly surprising but it’s annoying that McGree was allowed to play for the Aussies as he’s still not 100 percent imo. Now he’s gone for the season I’m wondering if he’ll have to have surgery on the foot problem he’s had all season?

There really does need to be a root and branch review of our training approach and injury management at the end of the season. We’ve a shocking record. Is it the intensity of our training? I know Carrick likes to replicate the real match scenarios, but if our players are so fragile is it worth that approach. It feels like we’ve had a full eleven out for almost all the season. I know other teams have suffered too, but we really do seem to tear the ars3 out of it, pardon the pun!

Regards Riley McGree - Carrick had this to say after it was highlighted Riley had been injured whilst on International Duty:

He's not been back in the country long, Riley, so again just a little bit on assessing it, scanning him, see where he is and seeing if he can get back involved.

As for Marcus Forss, following his injury against Blackburn, which prevented him going away to play for his country, Carrick had this to say:

He felt the tightness in his hamstring, Marcus. So we're giving him as much time as we can.

Absolute nonsense.

I disagree strongly R00fie1. Progress this season has been severely hampered by our failure to put out a settled XI. We’ve been wracked by injuries all season. Just because they are of a different nature doesn’t and shouldn’t exclude an assessment of our approaches to training, injury management and prevention. I personally think it stands to reason.. and that’s not to blame anyone or any specific department.

Players seem to be made out of balsawood these days

Still remember the players we had in the rioch era, basically 12 players who were any good and they pretty much played all of the time all season with the odd one
or two with long term injuries

And that was then with wild hard sliding tackles and garbage pitches

I cannot recollect ever in my time following the Boro the comical level of absentees to the level they have had this season , it really is completely ridiculous the inury situation, and needs
a club investigation into how to avoid it going forward

I find it slightly strange how some fans seem to suggest it is somehow normal, when i would argue it has reached a level that has never been exceeded in the history of the football club

He was also asked if it was the same injury (plantar fascilitis) to his foot that kept him out previously, and Carrick replied that it was a different foot injury.

There's something to be said for wearing a more robust shoe. Some modern shoes are like carpet slippers.

I’ve been following Boro 50 odd years and can’t remember a season as bad, but maybe it’s my memory and the disappointment and frustration of this season, but I can’t honestly remember one as bad. I think Carrick is doing a great job btw and am chuffed with the resilient nature of today’s performance. However, if this pattern continues, we will struggle to ever put out our strongest XI.

Izzy Jones had cramp after 40 minutes today. How does that happen. He's a young professional athlete. That said a lot to me. Either the warm up or the training aren't right. Someone needs to look at it because it's ridiculous.

On the other hand bizarrely we looked full of beans at the end today and should have won it. So is it certain players cannot cope with the demands.

Next season, which is probably one of the few normal ones in terms of not being after COVID, we won't have loads away on international duties etc, will be interesting.

We will also I guess have a replacement for the fella who went to the states the other week. So perhaps a change in the fitness department might have an influence.

Do we know if the story about the training pitches not replicating actual playing surfaces was true? That might explain some of the pulls we have seen.

Or his hooves are made of porcelain. No, good point Pierre, maybe boots are lighter and less robust than they used to be.

just returning from a hamstring injury its unlikely hes done much running
probably rushed back as well

We've been really unlucky with injuries this season, but conversely I think the opposite was true last season.

I'm sure that there's been work done to identify if there's any learning from this season, but the fact that last season was entirely different at least suggests not.
