Fourteen years ago today - THAT Cardiff game

As terrible as we were that day, I don’t blame Southgate I blame the players and poor recruitment more. I don’t blame Wilder for last nights performance, it was the players collectively who let themselves and their manager down on both occasions.

Wheater, Arca, O’Neil, Alves, Mido were all way below standards of previous squads to 2006. We paid the price of having to cut the finances on going for glory under Robson and McClaren, Southgates hands were somewhat tied and he was given the squad Gibson could afford. Yes he made mistakes too along the way, but that day the players did not show any fight.

Cardiff wern't that good in the game either but somehow we were utterly shocking and made them a lot better than they were.

Jimmy Floyd was playing for them as well, why oh why didn't we keep him for a couple of more seasons the strikers we signed afterwards in the Southgate era was horrendous.

On paper our team looked OK. But yes - a performance as limp as a month old lettuce leaf.

Don’t ever remember feeling as dejected and angry after a game as I did after that performance.

Just awful.
