Anyone going to the empire tonight? My favourite artist playing a solo gig. Hoping to see him when he plays over here next month, virus allowing of course. Would be interested in hearing how the solo show sounds as I've only seen him play with his full band.

Big fan of his, hope it’s a great gig for you.
If I was going I’d be hoping he didn’t play anything off his latest album because as much as I love pretty much every other album he’s done I thought this one was crap and after listening had no desire to hear any of those songs again. Would be interested to know what you think of it?

Pretty much this.

Yes a few of us are going. Hope its a good show not seen him since Music Live years ago.
Must say though hate the venue. The sound is usually poor, people will talk during an acoustic set and the beer(or lack of it) is dross. They don't sell one thing worthy of drinking. Stock is for young nightclub team.:poop:

I’ll be there my favourite solo artist. This will be the 5th time I’ve seen him

Although it's certainly not my favourite album, I think listening to the podcast he did about each track and about who the woman were that he is singing about was very interesting and put a new light on the songs for me. I think that there are a couple of really good songs on the album, jinny Binghams ghost and the death of Dora hand.

How was the gig for any that went? Saw the set list and it looked great, though apparently the crowd were a bit ****, talking through the slower songs?

Gig was great, good crowd, think I was the only one in the audience that didn't know the words to all the songs, quite extraordinary.

Poor sound, awful beer.

Empire was rammed and as Frank said at the start everyone was welcome to join in backing vocals. At the end of the gig on the "encores" (he doesn't actually leave the stage) the crowd took the lead and he did backing. Amazing atmosphere.

Went to see him at Wembley Arena. He left the stage before encores that day, to get a tattoo! Too man.

I love the way each gig is a massive singalong.

Rob, which artists don’t allow singing along? I’ve never been to a gig where joining in wasn’t allowed!

I was there. Great gig as always got a place next to the bar so I could see and keep my drink topped up throughout

if it’s an acoustic gig it’s generally a bit frowned upon, but different when it’s Metallica or the killers
Yes I can see that now, can’t remember ever being to a fully acoustic gig but got tickets to see Brian Fallon soon so might be my first if it doesn’t get cancelled!

Enjoyed the gig. Set list was okay but he has many better songs than some he played tonight. Granted they were chosen for the atmosphere.
deganya I didnt know the words to 98% of the songs but then I usually dont. Was expecting it to be spoiled by people talking but to be honest it was okay. Probably due to the singing. People talked a lot over the supports. Could not hear his wife Jess Guise at all but enjoyed Micah Schnabel. Need to check him out. All in all much better than I expected. Never had a drink in there as everything is dross. Thought the sound was ok were we stood more so for Frank Turner than the supports.
