Fry and Lenihan

Didn’t help yesterday when one of the two mentioned put through his own goal.
Not saying it was his fault in any way, just unlucky.

Fry and Lenihan were excellent 1st half. The goal was shocking from Forss/Silvera. We then had a 5 minute spell where we went to pieces a bit and Lenihan contributed to it by trying to be aggressive and get us upfield.

In those circumstances it needs to be a midfielder not a CH doing it and we the crowd should increase our volume in a positive way.

It happened eventually, but we could have gone 2 down before it did.

The corner that they scored from should not have been conceded. It should have been a throw. What would have happened with that no one knows they might still have scored.

We don’t really looking keeping clean sheets. We do like to play open and expansive football and that is the trade off I suppose.

At some stage it’s going to wrong with the distribution from the goalkeeper in a league game either a misdirected/poorly judged pass or caught out of position when that happens this place will light up.

Without that goal we would probably be looking back at a fairly comfortable win that we could have scored more in. It was a horrible fluky goal and no doubt we'll score one or two like that during the season.

The performance was an improvement on our previous games and our new boys look promising

I'd say Fry was at fault for that goal.
I don't really get what he was trying to do.
The best he could have hoped for was thighing/shinning the ball back the way it came/out or in to a dangerous area.

It's hard to play successful expansive football without a solid CDM who can delay, deny, deflect and defend when you lose the ball

Won't lie, I started to ask myself this question last season as we were conceding goals for fun but still coming out on top and winning games so it was going unnoticed really, amid all the excitement ... willing Summer to hurry so we could strengthen the squad in the window and really get to work on our defense

I think Lenihan tends to get a bit of a pass, the reputation he had when he arrived, a seasoned, top-level Championship CB ... do I believe he is good enough to be playing in a team that expects to be among the mix for promotion ... top two, play-off final winning sides ... looking at the teams that come down this season .. don't make me laugh!! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

It is a different situation with Fry ... I am not sure if it is playing with Lenihan or not where we get the best out of him. He was unlucky with his own goal yesterday. Won't do his confidence any good but hoping he has forgotten about it already. We know how highly the club rates him and the interest he has gotten from bigger sides than us, and still does no doubt. He ain't getting any younger though!

The fact that yesterday, everyone deep down knew Warnock's side was walking away with something yesterday speaks volumes still at the minute for me. It is almost like we haven't addressed our defensive work at all with the urgency it requires .. our lack of confidence is palpable

So I guess at the moment, my answer is no ... I have seen no evidence to suggest they are good enough for a side aiming for automatics for certain only due to the quality that is above us/parachute sides this season ... perhaps they are decent enough to give it a go finishing in the top-six but I just don't see it this season. Too much quality above us and we don't even know what our best side is.

Players like Silvera, etc .. I did not expect ot see them starting games straight away. Same with Lath and Engel yesterday. Not been here five minutes and straight into the side.

(Lath, however ... did very very well, a goal would have been the icing on the cake. Impressive stuff, barely been here five minutes. Same with Engel ... though took him a while to get up to speed. Signs he will learn fast, seems very enthusiastic, and up for the challenge. Best of luck to him)

All feels a bit like hit and hope for the best right now, though, perhaps a message from MC to above??

This season is yet another of transition, going to be tough, I just hope we keep hold of Carrick as the going gets tough because I like him and want him to succeed here. I know how nasty things can get overnight here and it is some time now since we've won a game.

We need to step it up at the back, sharpish.

They're both good defenders for a side playing more conservatively. I'm not convinced Fry suits our style or even particularly complements Lenihen.

There are mitigating factors. We do play open football. There isn't much in the way of midfield protection. And they have conceded some unlucky goals this season.

BUT if you're going to play a high line and leave gaps in behind, you need a proper unit and athlete back there. Fry has the stature but he doesn't have the aggression. Lenihen doesn't have the height.

For a lot of sides, due to the amount of possession we'll tend to end up with, their best chance of scoring will be breakaways and set pieces. We could really do with a bit of a monster at the back to nullify that.

An athletic defensive mid wouldn't hurt either.
