Getting Married Abroad

Me and my partner are really keen on getting married abroad - particularly on one of the Greek Islands.

Wondered if anybody on here has done the same or attended one and had any feedback/guidance as its all a bit overwhelming when you start looking.

Got married in Cyprus 16 years ago and have been to quite a few weddings abroad over the years in Italy, Greece etc. was at one in Kos last year which was great if not a little too hot!

Main things to have is a wedding planner over there to sort everything out so you aren’t running around dealing with local customs and a foreign language and also to be prepared that you can’t expect everyone to come so you may want to throw a reception when you get home too.

Definitely need a wedding planner local to where you want to get married. I went to Turkey for one last year and it was fabulous although seemed quite stressful for the bride and groom in the run up to it.

It's OK if your nearest family that you would like to attend have enough money and the time to join you. If not then it could be awkward for them, as these things can be very expensive for them. Its like forcing a foreign holiday on someone who might not want one or might not be able to afford it.

Me and my wife got married in Florida in 2010. We used a company who organised everything which helped massively.
