Getting through to the League Cup semis.

As there were rumours that we were close to FFP limits in the summer, a two legged semi final, if we got there, could free up funds for the January transfer window. Will we play the first team at Port Vale?
Could you substantiate these rumours?

😂 I don't really get this. Glover didn't show anything in his display on Tuesday evening to turn you into a worried wreck about him.
I've watched every game he's played, willing him to be the next Schwarzer and I'd be more than happy to be proved wrong but I've not seen anything to suggest he's anywhere near good enough for us

He’s the No.2 goalkeeper. Which other second-tier clubs have got top quality back-up goalkeepers to choose from?

Personally I would play Dieng in every game he’s fit and available because I don’t agree with ‘rotating’ goalkeepers in the cup games, but we just have to suck it up and accept that almost every coach or manager now does this. Even in the third and fourth tiers.

Speaking of underestimating teams, look what happened last night in the German DFB Cup when Bayern Munich took on Third-tier Saarbrücken. They left Harry Kane on the bench.

Incredible scenes. What a shock. The Harry Cane trophy jinx continues.....

Don't think it's a case of playing our strongest team. Carrick has built a squad where he is happy for any of them to play. We have 9 games between 2 Dec and 1 Jan - there will be loads of rotation.

I love the self-satisfied this-is-probably-the-first-of-many-cos-we-are-only-playing-a-third-division-club goal celebration by Bayern.

I went to Saarbrücken earlier this year and can safely say they were the drunkest fans I've ever seen. This was for a 14:00 kick-off. On a Sunday.

To be fair they pretty much would. Watching them last night they're streets apart from us.
Annoyingly I'd say they are the next best team in the league after Citeh. As long as their trophy virgin status doesn't distract them when they get to the business end of the cups/Europe they'll go very close in the league I reckon.

This PV fixture will be our 4th in 11 days . My biggest fears then about poss not getting through to the semis is who's still standing , fit and playing well , when this comes around. Port Vale have one less game in that same period ,

What is Middlesbrough's FFP conundrum?

Writing for Teesside Live, Middlesbrough reporter Craig Johns has revealed that January might not be too busy for Boro, as they are getting close to FFP issues:
"My understanding is that Boro were pushing things close with regard to financial fair play this summer. And unless really in need, they're keen to try and avoid the loan market as much as possible.
"Obviously there will be things they can do in January to give them a little ability to move. Potentially moving on certain players if they see fit would create some wiggle room. Paddy McNair will be an interesting one. He's one of Boro's highest earners and, with just six months left on his contract, won't get a new one at Boro on anywhere near the same kind of terms.
"If they could somehow move him on, that would be a massive help. Beyond that, as things stand, I'd be surprised if there was too much movement.”

None of that is accurate though. We might have a cash issue but we don't have an FFP issue. Gibson is free to inject equity if he chooses and he is choosing not to. That's not an FFP issue.

Indeed. Remember when we played Cardiff in the quarter final of the FA Cup and most people thought it was a safe passage to the semi and they came here and did us over. Underestimate Port Vale at our peril.
And Burton in the League Cup.
