Has George Russell proved the car is actually the star?

Totally agree, been bored of Mercedes and Hamilton for a few years.
Same when red bull dominated and ferrari before that.

Hamiltons miles better than bottas and thats deliberate by the team.

It was only qualifying.

By your thinking we can look forward to Russell winning 7 world championships then?

How can anyone say that Hamilton wouldn't have been half a second quicker than the lot of them yesterday?

It's all about race-craft, driving skills, tyre management etc. which Hamilton has in abundance.

Don't forget Russell has experience with williams so its not as though he is fresh to F1, What I think it points to is Bottas not a strong No2 driver, while russell has always out qualified his team mates previously he should not be able to be that close to Bottas with so little time in the car.

Thats not what I said. The fact he wins everything is so boring. I turn it off if he gets past the first few laps in the lead.

Odd that we've got one of the world's greatest sportsmen in our country for once, and that rather than celebrating his achievements, some people try to demean or downplay them.
Top sportsman always attract their detractors, and it is definitely a British thing. I just can't fathom it myself.
George Russel has won the F2 & the F3 championships and I hope he gets a top car in the near future, he along with Norris are potentially F1 future champions. It's clear you need to a lot of things to fall into place to be a champion, car, driver, team and finance.

It's not just the car, but if the driver cant get himself into a decent team, then he isn't going to be champion. The best teams employ the best drivers. The fact Hamilton left a good team in McLaren to join Mercedes, who at that time were nothing special, instead of staying which would ahve been the easy option, seems to be held against him instead of applauded.

The other stand out driver on the current grid keeps on signing long term contracts with a team that cant provide a championship win. Who's fault is that? Senna would not have done that.

That’s not exactly true either

Lewis played the long game.

That's right Zorro. Hamilton knew Mercedes were crap when he joined them but he had a crystal ball which allowed him to see into the future and was therefore guaranteed at least 6 driver world championships with them.

It all makes perfect sense.

No but he knew what their plans were long term let’s not forget he had a Mercedes power unit at mclaren so he joined the works team who had/have almost limitless resources so yes it was a gamble but not the big leap of faith some think.

Was shaping up to be a very interesting watch and one corner later any interest I had in the race entirely wiped out! What a shame
