Have the club let Carrick down?

Plymouth yes Plymouth turned down lazio so don’t tell me we couldn’t turn down Villa
I’d argue Villa are a bigger club than Lazio but that’s a different conversation, Villa have overpaid for Rogers by a long way it was too good to turn down.

The Rogers sale was the biggest tell about our future business for me. Yes, we made a profit, but he had been here only 6 months and was showing signs that he was developing nicely. To cash in on him like we did was a signal that money is needed more than talent. He'd have still been a saleable asset come summer and we'd have got the rest of the season out of him to boot. No point developing players if we let them go at first sign of interest and don't actually see them pay off on the field.
I hope I'm wrong, but this new approach seems designed to keep the club afloat first and foremost and any success on the pitch will be entirely dependent on getting lucky in the market more than it will come from buying better players than what we already have.
I think this summer will test the patience of the fan base even more than last.
I said at the time Roger’s sale was huge white flag to the rest of the league that we don’t care about this season my worry was it would be to the players as well.

Look at us since.

He cost about 7 mil mate in real terms not sure why you are so in awe.

He was a steel and villa know it.

“It's not known how how much Villa's offer for the attacker was but sources have told the Northern Echo that the bid was "rejected out of hand".

Rejecting a bid is a completely different to rejecting a bid out of hand.

The club immediately made it clear that they'd sell Rogers if the right price was reached.

Plymouth immediately made it clear that they wouldn't sell Whittaker

I'm sure Carrick will understand the longer we are in the championship we have to sell star play especially for a decent fee and can't stand in a players way if a premier League team come in.That money if sensible can help keep the club afloat and invest in decent players at a fraction of the price in players such as Finn,Forss,Rav etc.The people who run the club have made massive mistakes along the way Which has resulted in the long term mess we see our selves in bringing in a fresh recruitment team etc has been a positive move and selling the debt feo shares etc is the best Gibson has done in along time but the longer we are in the championship round and round we go which in itself is boring obviously under Carrick the crowds have improved but we are still just existing which is no fault of Carrick's.

100%

It’s no good mate they won’t listen

The reality is Villa played us like a fiddle right up to the late payment fee and clauses as well

I don't think so - I suspect he knew what he was coming into.

We are trying to become a modern sustainable club that is in the 18-35 range sizewise nationally.

The only option is really to gradually build.

I think we have a decent squad - I Said that in January when we were 9th and in a cup semi final - don't think that has changed by losing Rogers and crooks.

But I do think the club took the long view at the end of the transfer window. The interview with Scott says that clubs doubled their valuations when the Rogers sale happened - I'm glad they didn't pay those prices.

The performances against West brom, Preston and Southampton at home and Leicester home and away show that their is talent there - it's just inconsistent. So I think you have to trust Carrick and Scott to work out which players to build around which is what I believe we are trying to do.

I’ve literally quoted it for you….

The only difference is Lazio didn’t want to pay any more so didn’t come back with a second or third bid.

Also, we don’t know how much Lazio actually offered. If it was £7m or something we would have rejected it too.

If Lazio met their valuation they would have sold him.

Sunderland turned down Lazio also.

I don't worry that it was a white flag on this season as much as I worry that it's a potential indicator of our future.
Oh yes it’s also set a huge precedent that WE will sell key players at any time so bidding clubs no if the press hard enough we’ll buckle.

You can quote me what you like.
Half of what you linked were articles discussing exactly what Middlesbrough's price was to sell Rogers.

It's very clear that the club were in negotiations with Aston Villa throughout, so the club pretending that they've rejected bids without discussing them is irrelevant.
They were openly willing to sell at a certain point, and leaked to the media what that price was.

That is not rejecting out of hand.
