I’ve looked up the item on their website so I know the price do I just go in and say here it is and they give me the money.

It’s hardware btw not a dvd/game etc

It's pretty slick. I've sold a few things through them. You drop off your device and just leave. They'll then appraise it. If it's fine you'll just get the omeny in a few days. If there is a problem they will contact you and give you a revised offer or ask you to come and pick it back up.

You take it in and they will examine it and give you a price. It will then be tested which usually takes about half an hour. Thety give you a receipt so you can go and do shopping etc and then return to hopefully pick up your cash.

An right thanks it’s my old graphics card

They are similar to cash converters, they will offer you half of what they will eventually sell it for, you’re better off using gumtree or eBay unless you want a quick sale.

I would disagree. I have sold a few items through them and only had one downgraded. for a reasonable reason too (I said it was grade a but it did have a noticeable scratch on it)

Yes what I mean was that if you sell something to them for say £200 they will have it on the shelf for £400-£500, you would be better off selling privately if you didn’t need it gone straight away.

Like you say if you are in no rush for the cash, sell privately but if you want money straight away then CEX seem pretty fair. I have never had a real problem with them, they have never been unreasonable with me.

Sold a few bits to them, not high value, camera lenses and phones. Never had an issue. It's quicker and more convenient that eBay. I just sold a camera on eBay and felt a bit cheat at the level of fees they took off.

CEX is risk free though, I've sold quite a few different computer components over the years on eBay and while you do get more money you also run into scammers that eBay always take the side of.

Facebook marketplace isn't bad but obviously reduces your potential buyers as they need to come and collect most of the time.

Only tried CEX once and the amount they offered for the laptop I took in was derisory. It was in the original box and packaging and completely unmarked and they didn't even offer 25% of what they were selling them for.

As an aside, in my case above I'd rather give it away for nothing than be fleeced by a business blatantly profiteering.

If they didn't make a profit they wouldn't be there. Factor in that they are a big presence on the high street, adding massive overhead. This is really handy as you can just go in and drop off, rather than a massive faff of sending through mail.

I think CEX provide a really useful service, I've used many times and always really pleased with them. As stated, you'll get a bit less than you may do selling by other means, but it can be worth it for the lack of hassle.
