Hayden Hackney is going to be a huge star ***

The lad hasn't misplaced a pass for 3 games!!!! Shows the benefit of giving lads from the academy time as first 2 or 3 games showed flashes of ability but struggled overall, now, he has grown massively and is demanding the ball and playing with confidence. Looks like a senior player with 100+ games under his belt.

This is beginning to remind of a thread many years ago about Curtis Main after he put in a class performance against Millwall (I think). Pretty sure we reached a consensus that he was basically going to turn into Van Basten, Shearer and Romario all rolled into one 😂

No argument from me that Hackney has looked absolutely class so far mind.

Can't ask for a better mentor than Carrick either you'd think.

He looks ok - hopefully he’s what you say he is. But what, he’s played 4 or 5 games so maybe a bit early to bestow such greatness on him. We’ve had a lot of these over the years, I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve seen a bit more of him.

You don’t have a clue. Still think Tav is crap? Hackney has been unbelievable. He’s better than ok. A footballers footballer.

Yep, agree.

Too much focus on the short term, hence why so many clubs are a financial mess. Maybe if clubs came out and said “we have a 10 year plan that will involve periods where we are losing but it’s all focussed on that longer term goal, please stick with us” then the short termism could disappear, however there are going to be fans, owners and boards of at least 12 clubs unhappy in the Championship this year - 3 that go down and 9 that didn’t go up.
Clubs often do state something similar. Their long-term plans rarely survive first contact with the enemy (apologies to general Moltke and Mike Tyson.) We used to be the exception, with Gibbo known for giving managers time, but not recently. Fingers crossed for Carrick.

First time I've seen him today, the fella is class. Reminds me of Declan Rice, rather than Souness, as some have posted. Think he benefits from 442 and playing alongside Howson, but has really taken his opportunity.

I saw him in a game at Rockliffe earlier this year - he was streets ahead of everyone else on the pitch. At the time I thought he’d probably never get near the first team for 2 years at least - it’s a delight to see him there and doing so well. A gem.

Bull$hit!!!! 100 Pecs passing accuracy, lad does not misplace a pass
Definitely failed to find Chuba with a pass towards the end of the second half, although it may have been partly because Akpom didn't read it. That was the only blemish though, as others have said, he really looks the part and seems to be gaining in confidence match by match.

Totally agree with the earlier comment to the effect that if someone had told you he was a player here on loan from a Premier League team, you wouldn't be surprised.

Reminds me of the way pallister as young lad before he went to man utd stood head and shoulders above everyone else in the division. Early days but it's not like he's doing well just through andrenaline running around at 100 mile an hour like an owen mcgee or a Phil stamp, he has great quality you can't fluke the way he passes the ball with the right weight and accuracy. He has the perfect mentor in Carrick to get better and better.

That passing accuracy is an unbelievable stat.

I'm really excited about this lad, albeit its VERY early days and he needs to do it consistently over a much longer period, but he has so much to his game.

His range of passing is excellent, he plays in all three areas of the pitch, can tackle, carry the ball through the midfield and is always positive on the ball.

But for me, the most telling attribute is his touch and control, which is exceptional and makes the game look easy for him.

He was the best player on the pitch for me today.

I’m sorry if I’m not going to claim the lads a world beater after 4 or 5 games. I’ve seeen many on this board claim that our players are worth millions and destined for the Prem after a few games - most if not all have never reached those heights! The lad has potential but I’m just a bit mor measured in my assessment :)

I don't see anyone claiming he's "a world beater." All everyone is saying is that he has played well in recent matches including yesterday, and that he looks like a highly promising young prospect.

How can anyone have looked at him even in training, given the shortage of MF at the club and thought he's not ready?

Shocking indictment of Wilders judgement. He's a classy player and probably capable of a higher level than this.
I don’t think he did look that’s the problem as maddo all but said yesterday it was his senior team and the rest.

He just wasn’t interested.
