Hayden Hackney rounds off superb season with a new Middlesbrough contract

The 18-year-old made his first team Boro debut in the FA Cup against Brentford earlier this year

It's been a season to remember for Hayden Hackney - and it just got even better, with the midfielder signing a new two-year Boro deal.

The Redcar-born 18-year-old made his first team debut at Brentford in the FA Cup and also appeared in the Championship when he came off the bench on the final day against Wycombe at the Riverside.

Academy staff and first team boss Neil Warnock rate Hackney highly, and the midfielder has penned a new two-year contract with the club.

He is the latest in a long list of youngsters to sign contracts in recent weeks, following in the footsteps of Josh Wells, Isiah Cornet, Jack Robinson, Cain Sykes, Max Metcalfe. Earlier this week, Boro also completed the signing of teenage winger Jeremy Sivi after an impressive Rockliffe trial.

Academy youngster Hayden Hackney has committed his future to the club, signing a new two-year deal.​

As well as featuring regularly for Boro's Under-23s, the 2020/21 campaign saw the 18-year-old midfielder on the fringes of the senior squad, making his full first team debut away to Brentford in the Emirates FA Cup back in January before his league bow on the final day against Wycombe Wanderers.

Redcar-born Hackney joined Boro's Academy as an Under-10, and made history when he scored the winning goal for our development side in the Checkatrade (Football League) Trophy at Burton Albion in 2018, the club's first ever victory in the competition.

He is the latest in a string of promising young players to extend their journey with the club in recent weeks, with Josh Wells, Isiah Cornet, Jack Robinson, Cain Sykes, Max Metcalfe and Jeremy Sivi all penning professional contracts.

A lot of fans want money spent in the transfer market but the academy or youth products is where we are historically very strong and should be putting most of our energy in my opinion.
