Help, I've Been Kidnapped By KLM

Don’t think you will as it is weather related and therefore classed as being beyond their control.
I had a similar scenario a couple of years ago at Heathrow ,my flight was delayed because high winds had blown a set of steps into the aircraft and caused damage ,or so they claimed. They had in fact used the aircraft on a different route.
I argued that the steps should have been secured and therefore it was their negligence and not an act of god,I won my compensation.
We got compensation for delays due to thunder from Bulgaria. If his other flight has taken off there is obviously operational reasons rather than it just being the weather

Was same with us. Flight delayed 8 hours but other planes taking off

Ladies and gentlemen, this is your stewardess speaking… We regret any inconvenience the sudden cabin movement might have caused, this is due to periodic air pockets we encountered, there’s no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you enjoy the rest of your flight… By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?

Update:

Off the plane now and seeking to find a way home. KLM haven't proactively sorted anything for me (indeed the app seems to think I'm on the original flight and halfway over the Atlantic now) and have left it to me to find someone to help.

The self-transfer terminals just say they can't help and I must see an agent, there are 6 Transfer Desks in Schipol, 5 are closed and, as you can imagine, the 6th is carnage. (7 windows but 3 are shut....... only 4 people to help every single KLM passenger in their flagship airport). It works on a deli-ticket system and I'm on an anticipated 2 hour wait (meaning I'll miss the only other 2 flights today to Chicago from here with any airline affiliated to KLM) but the speed it's going makes me estimate twice that time.

I also know my luggage won't appear for a week (KLM have a track record of doing this to me, even if flights are on time).

You go girl!

One of my sidelines is that I'm an aviation dispute adjudicator. Weather is usually an extraordinary circumstance thst would allow the airline to avoid paying statutory compensation. However, they also have an obligation to re-book you at the earliest opportunity, even if this is via a different route or with a different airline. It isn't likely that they will do this, but if you can highlight to them that they failed to comply with their obligation to take all reasonable measures to avoid or mitigate the delay by doing so, they will probably pay up. If not, escalate to whichever dispute resolution service they are signed up to or issue a small claims summons.

Thanks Craig,

Tbh I expected them to just automatically book me on the next available flight and update my booking on the KLM app (the only other delay I've has was with Etihad and that was exactly what they did) but that seems to be too slick for KLfuckingM. They'd rather treat everyone like ****.

Tediously pedantic point; it’s was originally called the windy city because the inhabitants were so aggressively vocal about a political campaign.
Though, having spent a chunk of time there, the wind does come in off the lake at a fair pace.
What? Madness. Next you'll tell me it isn't actually mighty pretty either!

Used to be a quality airline before being acquired by Air France.

Similar experience. I'm currently sat in a cityhopper on the runway at Kristiansand Norway. Flight was supposed to leave at 2pm, it's now 430pm and they've said they can't leave until 515pm. We've already missed our connecting flight to Teesside, fortunately there is one at 935pm, which i'm not sure we'll either get to in time or could be cancelled. We had to take the initiative and rebook that ourselves as the app is useless and trying to get hold of someone at KLM is almost impossible

The pilot has just told us that all flights from Schiphol are delayed for 2 hours, which is rubbish as i've been tracking them whilst killing time in the airport.

I could put up with it today but our flight out on Friday evening was a similar experience. We were delayed for 2 hours from Teesside, missed our flight here, had to check in a hotel at midnight, up for 5am for what we thought was the next flight here, but instead had to take an additional flight to Bergen then to Kristiansand, as the direct flight was "full". Our friend happened to be on that flight and said it was half full at best!

I'll never slag Ryanair again (probably)

You can claim for luggage costs on a daily basis but they're quite good at not proactively telling you that

I generally find in favour of the passenger if he has rebooked himself in the period between the airline cancelling the flight and them notifying him of his right to choose to rebook at the earliest opportunity and then giving him a genuine chance to do so even if it requires the use of a different airline. In those circumstances you'd be due the difference between the cost of the new flight and the refund for the old unused ticket. Plus stat comp. Adjudicators aren't necessarily consistent though and I don't do KLM.

KLM. Kases Lost Most of the time. Many a time my bags have been on a different path to me. The one that sticks out was MME TO JFK via schipol. Case went to Bahrain. I went to the USA. 11 days in the USA my case arrived home 3 minutes before I did
