HICKTON - Riverside Racing Syndicate

As a member for a few years I can give my perspective of being a member, if anyone is on the fence.

I live down south so don't get to as many meetings as I would like. So far I have been to Newcastle, beverley, Newmarket and Wolverhampton.

It's a lot of travel for me so I try to coincide meetings I attend with a visit to family.

The win for lady ayresome at beverley was a brilliant day out. A couple of beers some footie and horse chat and the joy of seeing your horse win a significant race with decent prize money.

I didn't get to royal ascot as I couldn't get the day off work, more the pity but the lads that attended had a great day out. An experience very few people get.

It can be a bit tedious in the jumps season when you don't get many runs from your horse or when you sell one horse and are looking for your next.

It isn't a cheap hobby but it is fixed costs. Meetings can be as cheap as you want them to be with tea, coffee and soft drinks being free for owners along with free food, from a free pizza to a nice buffet. No Racecourse entry fee, as an owner.

Clearly for me it's worth it and every new horse we purchase is a chance to dream.

We’ll be sticking to the flat from now on!! Winter racing is not a patch on the joys of the summer version.
