High Blood Pressure

Having worked as a Nurse, I always advised my patients to ask why / what meds were for. Sometimes "health "professionals" proscribe tablets like they were on commission. When it comes to the "carer" becoming the "patient", it's a massive shock. Knowing you are dependent on the bluddy things is like planning your life around collecting them and trying to remember taking them. I still hate it. Gets depressing.
I manage by timing my 2 tablets with dinner so eating triggers the memory.

The Doctors want me to record my blood pressure twice per day for the next four days, then send them the results and go from there.
I'm aiming for a healthy, relaxing, alcohol free weekend and hopefully the numbers start to move in the right direction and I can avoid the medication (I think that is unlikely though).
I'm also going to stop stressing about work etc as I think that will be one of the main factors for me.

I track my blood pressure after a reading of 165/105 at docs. Usually mine are fine, last night I done a monthly check was reading 139/93 which is high.
Just done one today when it's supposed to be its highest was 118/81. Strange thing blood pressure, my docs are happy for me to just exercise and diet for now but I can't stand either 😫 😩, health over wealth though I'm gonna start from now!!! Hope everything goes well for you mate x

Cheers Don - my numbers are similar to what you had at around 160/100.
Hopefully I can get that down but dont know how quick I will realistically be able to do it.
All the best to you too 😀

Good plan mate.
If you get a few freak readings, keep note but take them again after a calm break. I had all kind of spiky readings. The machine can give false results and the process itself can be a bit of a hassle. It doesn’t necessarily mean they’re accurate.

I got a Qardio bp monitor. It’s a bit pricy but it is all stored on an app that can be emailed to your dr. It takes 3 measurements and averages it out.

Definitely starting to recognise some signs that it’s rising but it’s tough as there can be few or no symptoms. Mine are headache and a generally feeling a bit meh but can’t say why. I test and see it has started to creep.

My high BP was picked up at an eye exam, oddly enough. There was a white spot in one of my eyes which is indicitive of high BP. I got lucky as I had no symptoms at all.

This is exactly what I had, but it was more of a white "flickering" dot, initially went to the opticians who suggested I contact my doctor.

Glad I went, nearly fell off the chair when they said I needed to go to hospital like.

Stress is a big factor, I'm a big worrier and over thinker, always have been, I think work is the main cause of my stress and I'm actively trying to give less of a toss in that regard.

Easier said than done for some people, but family and health is more important than graft!

How have you got on over the last week?

Not too bad actually thank you.
Its actually 7 days that the Doctors want me to monitor my blood pressure for, which takes me up until tomorrow.
Its actually coming down quite a bit now and was 136 over 88 this morning. Still too high but its heading in the right direction.
I've not had a drink for over two weeks, eating healthy with lots of fruit and veg, and trying not to get too stressed about stuff.
I'm hopeful that I wont need medication - but, my small business is really struggling so stress will be unavoidable unless things pick up.

On another note - anyone know of any new career options for a 45 year old? I've had a small recruitment business for years now but that might close soon, so will need to find something else.
I don't need to earn a fortune but £30K minimum really - probably not easy to obtain when starting something new?

would you consider staying in recruitment? Linked in often has jobs for recruitment people in my industry (Engineering) AM recruitment always appear to be expanding their team. I am with NES Fircroft.

Did mine the other week 135/90 which i thought wasnt too bad but was told its borderline high pressure. Result is im looking at my diet and exercise regime to nip it in the bud.

Yeah you shouldn't be too far away from bringing it down to 120/80 hopefully.
I think just being aware of it - and stopping getting stressed and worked up for little reason - helps to bring it down.
Not that I'm an expect like - I never gave my blood pressure a 2nd thought until two weeks ago 🤣🤣

140/90 is normally judged the border between acceptable/not acceptable for an middle aged adult. My monitor has 100 to 140 as acceptable (green zone). The red zone is above 180.

If you spend a lot of time sat at computer/on a sofa, eat regular ready meals and are overweight your BP will rise - which covers around one third of the UK's adult population I would be surprised if someone BP was not 140/90 without medication.

Remember BP will rise with age so the average will rise from 120/80 once you go over 50.

I didn't realise that 140/90 was considered normal for a middle aged adult.
My 7 day average was 137/91 so pretty similar to that - its definitely moving in the right direction.
