How can someone be so cruel?

A friend just bought a house and moved in today. When she moved in there was a cat in the garden that tried desperately to go in the house, she then asked the neighbour what the story was with the cat, the previous owners had the cat and just left it when they moved out. She's now going to take the cat to a rescue centre. That's F***ing low isn't it?

One of our neighbours had a cat that would visit her home and she would feed it now and again and would want to make itself at home. She would take the cat back to its owners and then a few days later it would return. She took it back one day and the people who owned it had moved - she now owns the cat.

I think it’s a big no no that you feed somebody else’s cat. We had friends who had that done to them by their neighbours and fell out big time as their cat would spend more time away than at home.

Is she just thick or do you think it was a calculated move to steal the cat?

Massive no no to feed someone else's cat.

They should have fed it properly. 😉

There is a cat that calls at my dad's every other day and he feeds it. He's even named it Titty Wink's - How do you you tell an 89 year old what he is doing is wrong.

No one ever owns a cat, they are independent creatures and do not seek attention or affection in the same way as dogs and can be quite selective about who they want to interact with. We have a few kicking about our back that come and go but I don't mind. The odd one will come for a stoke and others are more aloof. We live on a cut and they help to keep the vermin down.

No, she's a caring animal lover who fed a cat that had spent time sleeping in her greenhouse. She then took the time to find its owner and returned the cat. The owner is the one you should be aiming your faux outrage at.

Whilst you couldn't tell an old lady that it was wrong the fact is feedings somebody else's cat is 100% wrong. Cats don't starve they are as greedy as dogs when it comes to eating and it's that independent streak which can tempt a cat away from what are probably loving owners. And I get your comment but the fact remains that a cat is a household pet that is owned by somebody that loves it and they are often very important companions for people - most are not ferrel as you imply by a comment such as "nobody owns a cat".

I'm not implying they are ferrel, I am saying that not all cats show loyalty.

Correct especially if somebody else starts to give them scran.
If a cat had spent days sleeping in your greenhouse and had mange (something I never put in my first post), would you have tried to care for it?

I can see the cat now sitting on her step, it looks a lot healthier than it did a year back and is also sporting a lovely red collar.

Then clearly that cat specifically had not been cared for and its owners didn't deserve their cat. I was talking generally about feeding cats if they were skulking around for food - something I feel strongly about as it can deprive loving owners of their pets.

Exactly, you have shown you understand that cats are not loyal like dogs. Therefore, surely you can make the leap that feeding them could easily lead them astray?

Anyway, this infuriates me so I will leave it there.

Infuriates you, I think you are in need of a cuddle this morning, have we woken up on the wrong side of the bed 🤣 🤣 🤣

If you are feeding a cat that isn't yours because of whatever reasons you've justified it to yourself then be prepared to also split the vet bills. Cats can decide to move but they don't leave a home that is feeding them for one that isn't. If they are moving home it is because someone else is feeding them and it's basically stealing. You don't know what situation the cat is in. It could need special food if it has a medical condition and it also makes it impossible for the real owners to know how much they are eating and stop them getting overweight (and therefore ill).

If you know the owners and you have spoken to them and they have said it is ok then that is different but in most circumstances like this it is just someone feeding a cat because they think it is being underfed/mistreated when it isn't. Cat's are clever and if they are getting fed outside of their home they will seek it out and they will act as if they haven't eaten all week but it's all an act.

Cats are very cunning and if they can get a feed somewhere else they will. One of ours used to be getting fed near where we used to live and whilst I understand why people do it, it can cause lots of problems. If you want to feed a cat you should get your own.

Unfortunatey the cat rescues are absolutely full of unwanted animals, as well as ferals/strays. Most of them are brought in or caught when pregnant. My wife works with a local cat rescue and they do amazing work, but it just goes to show that there are some very selfish people out there, who will own a cat but not take the repsonsibility of getting them neutered. Kittens can get pregnant at a very young age and it's totally irresponible to let a cat outside if they haven't ben neutered.
