How many points for the play-offs?

Just looked at the table now and think 73 (two more wins) will definitely get you there. We should do that (big disappointment if not). However 71 might just do it as well.
Main thing is to get back playing well and being confident going into them. Looking at the last few games, Huddersfield was a poor 25 minutes, Stoke and Burnley were tight games which we couldn't dominate and we were excellent against Preston.
Hopefully we will get the two wins quickly this week.

I agree that would be enough for us. Do that and it would require:
Millwall to get 12 from 6
AND
Blackburn to get 12 from 6
AND
Norwich to get 14 from 6

to keep us out of the playoffs. Each is possible individually, but I can't see all 3 happening.

Of course the likes of Preston could get involved, but it's even tougher for them.

Biggest factor in play off success is finishing 3 and form going into them - historically the team finishing 3rd has won them most and team in best form is next factor.

At present Luton are both

Good points but playoffs are in May, not early April. Form is temporary, being crap at Wembley is permanent!

We will end the Wembley hoodoo, we have to at some point, no time like the end of May 2023 go down in Boro folklore, I was there when Boro won at Wembley, so say 100,000 plus Boro fan's in years to come.
C'mon Boro, we BELIEVE

I'd agree with all of this, for the reasons you've given about combinations required.

However I'd say for US 72 points will probably be enough, owing to the fact that those sides are less likely to top our GD.

We play Norwich on Friday.

Millwall play Preston on Saturday.

A huge pair of games.

If we draw with Norwich, the gap will be a minimum of 6 points with 4 games to go.

If we win, and there's not a draw in the other game, it could be as big as a 9 point gap, we'd need 1 more win from 4 games to effectively confirm the play-offs because of our hugely better goal difference

4 points will do it but we really want to go into playoffs on back of 5 game winning streak having demolished Luton away

I'm not suggesting we should go for anything except the win on Friday, but a draw would leave Norwich needing to gain 8 points on us in 4 games to overtake us. Probably more chance of us overtaking Sheff Utd.

As has been said before, I'd prefer not to play Norwich in the playoffs, so lets do all we can to reduce their chances.

Here's one I prepared earlier .... pick the bones out of this

** When third bottom of the 1st Division took part in the play-offs

3rd place 13 (including Notts Co. 4th place when 3 teams went up automatically
4th place 7 (including Bolton who finished 3rd but only 1 team was automatically promoted ... guess who haha)
5th place 9
6th place 6 (including Sunderland but Swindon technically won the play-offs)

36 seasons the play-offs have now taken place ... wow

Blackpool were the last team to gain promotion from the 6th spot with 70 points (the lowest) in 2009/10 if you don't include Charlton staying up by winning the play-offs

How poor was the Championship in 2007/08 when 81 points won WBA the league compared with Reading's 106 in 2005/06
