Me and the mrs both key workers i work 5 days a week she works from home at least 3 days so kids go to school other 2 days even though feel better to keep them home , don’t have a so called bubble anymore as want to keep grandparents safe, but, in our street I’m seeing people mixing with other households , Kids going to school even though parents are working from home. Maybe we should just follow every one else and bend the rules a little and pretend covid isn’t happening?????

Kids are still allowed to go to school if parents are working from home.
For example, my wife is a care worker, I'm a chef on furlough. My eldest is in reception and my youngest just started nursery at the beginning of the month.
The school my eldest goes to said my eldest was eligible to go to carry on going to school because of my wife's job even though I am off work. We decided to keep her off school as saw no point sending her in when there would only be 4 other kids in her class. We have sent our youngest to nursery though, one day a week, for that social interaction with other kids her age and that one day she goes I can help the eldest catch up with her weekly schoolwork that day with full focus.

I got back to the UK on the 26th Dec, since then me and Mrs Flash have seen my niece from the end of their drive once when we were walking past on our daily walk and the same with my sister and brother in law Once. Been to Tesco once, other than that click and collect or deliveries.

Haven’t seen my sister since August, am tempted to go and stand at the end of her drive, but it’s 10 miles away, so I know it’s not right really.

I think I’ve followed the rules as closely as pretty much anyone and I’m sick as a pig.

Mornings: read the papers/ bake bread/ collect shopping/ potter on/ fmttm
Afternoons: walk 5 to 8 miles always from the house, routes are getting tedious
Evenings: telly, food and wine
Repeat.

I am keeping working, shut my showroom to the public but have three people working from there selling kitchens. We are allowed into customers houses for a two hour visit and survey. Then send fitters in to complete the jobs. I am racked with guilt as it is not following the spirit of the guidelines. However we comply with current guidelines. Luckily we operate in an area with the rate of virus is very low and the customers want us to visit. I am pressurised to carry on by my franchise company.
I want to stop, however my staff will not be supported enough and I will go bust. I also dont think that it is essential business to have a new kitchen.
I am incredibly sorry to hear of all the activities that people have given up and detrimental affect it has on us. I would love to see my family who I havent seen since the summer as they live a few hours away.
I really wish the government would revisit the guidelines to stop loopholes which mean that I am pressured to act against the public good.

Don’t beat yourself up. The government have drawn the line in the sand ultimately because they don’t want firms like yours to go bust. I walked past a house yesterday getting new carpets fitted, again hardly essential but I suppose there’s a balance with keeping a degree of economy going.

Interesting article on the BBC website people are driving cross country to view properties, second homes, because they’re allowed. Again I suppose it’s all balance between the realistic impact on health versus the economy.

You shouldn't feel guilty for providing a job for people to put food on the table. fella. If it's all within government guidance and you are sticking to it then fair play.

To the letter, although will need to do something soon as father in law needs to sort his house out before selling it and moving in with us. Should have been last year however he’s been really worried about catching it therefore put it on hold. He’s seen family but socially distanced, including on Christmas Day when he sat in the conservatory all day including eating his dinner in there.

He should get his jabs shortly, we’ve all had it so Easter holidays we’ll be helping him regardless.

I'm either in the office or on site visits, I'm classed as essential frontline and had my first jab 2 weeks ago. Nip into the shop once or twice a week for milk and bread and stuff. Not been out walking on a weekend for a while as I'm bored of my local routes and won't travel in accordance with the rules, even though where I go hiking I rarely see another soul. Mrs is WFH and has been since March with the occasional visit to the office if needed, she is also essential frontline. Not been in a supermarket since Feb, we only get deliveries, and we've not been anywhere else apart from my parents for a couple of hours on Christmas day. I'd say we're sticking to the rules pretty much to the letter. I'm actually grateful to be able to get into the office, I know some people are thoroughly fed up with WFH. Its a nice change having not previously been to work since April and WFH since March for just a few weeks before furlough started then redundancy.

I am much more positive since starting the new job and feel like we just have to soak it up until rules are relaxed, but I'm not fretting about when that may be, it is what it is. I do look forward to the day we can go to the pub for a meal and a pint with friends or maybe go to a gig or something

To add, we‘re both keen readers, but can’t be motivated to read, I’m a keen guitarist, but can’t be motivated to twang. Not sure what that’s about. It’s a dark time for everyone.

Mate I'm the same, can't bring myself to strum or read and I've got books to be getting on with.
The only thing I can manage to motivate for is training 4/5 days a week, it's just about keeping me the right side of the edge.

Delivery driving 5 days a week so at least I get about the area. Home, tea, shower and fester. Weekends up and out put my time sheet in, bit of food shopping if required. Sunday maybe out for a walk. Seems to be a groundhog week but needs must.

I’m lucky insofar as retired and live on my own so easy for me to obey rules ( they should be rules not guidelines ) . I drive to Sainsburys every Sunday for pick up and go in the car park , then straight home and under my stone again .

Ive started knocking hell out of my house and all the money I’ve saved on err ....not drinking is going into an overhaul on the house .

truthfully when this is over I’m going to spend a lot more time at home as I’ve fallen in love with it again . Plus ive lost nearly 3 stone .

With it looking increasingly likely I won't be going back to work till April at the earliest (assuming I have a job to go back to that is, although I'm sure I will) I'm looking at teaching myself on the guitar. Any good websites to use?

Been playing since I was about 13 but for tabs look up ultimate guitar and there's loads of good lessons on YouTube. 👍🏻

Oh and practice, practice, practice. Wonder wall is very easy to play and will give you that 'wow I can play' feel , so I'd learn that first. Infact essentially the entire oasis catalogue is easy to strum to.

This is the thing that gets me. I love to read and I love learning languages but I can’t be motivated to do either. Despite literally working, eating and exercising and not doing anything else. It’s strangely draining isn’t it?

Think it depends on the school, we have a few at work who are home working but the schools wont take the kids. They are having to sort the kids out through the day and start work once they go to bed. Imagine it must be absolute hell to work in that situation for weeks on end

I think it’s a level of depression, I don’t mean like AET suffers, I just think that to get by we suppress ourselves, almost like a degree of mental shutdown, hibernation even, to cope.

25 years ago I had some major surgery and 17 weeks off work, A lot younger and fitter, I lined loads of books and things to do to pass the time in advance, never read a word, just drifted through it, same as this. And like now I had long periods of no social interaction, because everyone else was at work while I was stuck at home. Should be grateful I’ve had some practice 😁

Yes that's happened to my brother. His wife is also a carer and he works for well known bank classed as a keyworker. He's only allowed to work at home but his daughter's school won't allow her to attend because he's at home even though he is doing key work at home. So how is he supposed to educate his daughter when they are both working?

If anything I am over following the rules!

go out fir a walk or run alternate days and that’s about it!
