How much do you do for charity?

Look what it turned into. A couple of people made donations. I’m sorry my OP didn’t meet your exalted standards. Next time, I’ll post a thousand photos and type in an annoying large font.
So when did you decide to become a troll? Were you born in to it? Or did you choose it? Or was it thrust upon you? Don't mess with roofie mate. You'll have me to deal with if you carry on like this. Behave yourself.

Give over and grow up. He cast aspersions on my character despite having never once interacted with me. I don’t appreciate your threatening tone at all.

Costs nothing to be nice to people . You should try it sometime.
Let’s have it right. Roofie insinuates I’m a troll. I defend myself and you attack me. Yet I’m the one who needs to be nice to people. I didn’t realise this board was such a closed shop.

roofie was being understandably suspicious about the OP. We get a lot of trolls on here. They usually start out with a post like that and then the mask starts to slip eventually. I'm sorry if I've misjudged you here. I just don't like people having a go at roofie. He's a really nice bloke.

You have completely misjudged me. Appreciate the apology and feel free to keep a close eye on my mask. I’ll happily debate with Roofie about my genuineness. I didn’t appreciate the passive aggressive nature of his posts. Think I’m a troll? Fair enough but at least have the decency to accuse me directly.

I'll apologise again then. Think you've got roofie all wrong though. He's one of the best posters on here. I don't want to make an enemy of you here. Can we just leave it at that?

Absolutely. I’m not a fan of making enemies of complete strangers.

I find it offensive and at the same time shameful that we have , in this country, cancer research, child poverty and food banks funded by charity.
for the last 30 years I've paid a DDM to " the plan" for the support of female education in Africa.
I'm considering changing this to a UK food bank and I feel ashamed because of our ( the uk's) fall in decentcy.

I don't do as much as I could/should I suppose. I do give sporadically when I see something that catches my eye, and support friends in their charitable activities by sponsoring them.

That does remind me of a story my dad told me though - where he worked there was a spate of staff members doing things like sponsored walks and as people donated the obligatory fiver, they got some uncharitable responses as to the size of their donation.

At some point, a member of staff had arranged a sponsored run (maybe the GNR, I forget) for his daughter who had serious medical issues and by luck approached my dad first - he gave him £50, and as that was the first name on the list the previous sponsoree's begrudgingly felt like they had to match that donation. He ended up raising a small fortune for his daughter (y)

It is embarrassing that so much charity is required and we shouldn’t be afraid to bring it into the public view.
Additionally, there seems to be a sentiment in this thread and society in general that people should play down or hide their charitable activities. This can give the illusion that things aren’t really that bad out there. It’s dangerous.
