I’m running 8 Half Marathons in 8 days

As the title says, in September I am running 8 half marathons in 8 days, starting with the Leeds half marathon on the 5th and ending with the great north run on the 12th. The runs in between will all just be local runs recorded using a tracking app on my phone.

Why am I doing this? I am doing this to raise money and awareness for Myotonic Dystrophy, particularly Congenital Myotonic Dystrophy. I was a little hesitant to post about this at first but thought I’d bite the bullet.

My Daughter Daisy was born last September and was diagnosed with Congenital Myotonic Dystrophy, I had never heard of this condition prior to this and was completely un-prepared to receive such a diagnosis. There is no cure for the condition and the only treatments available are to try to manage the symptoms.

Daisy is now nearly 11 moths and has been going from strength to strength and has even in such a short time surpassed any expectations we could have had; however, it is a degenerative condition, and we don’t know when deterioration will occur. We are just enjoying each day as they come.

There is a piece here on the Congenital Myotonic Dystrophy website about our Daughter’s story so far if anyone would like to read further - https://www.congenitalmyotonicdystr...EyKvTmTIEQO4xH3He1gFk29t6P4boxtrSo4EcuEpfkaIQ

The Justgiving page for my runs is here if anyone would like to contribute- https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jonathan-lawson1

Thank you for reading and I am happy to answer any questions anyone has.

That’s an amazing effort. Good luck and hope you stay blister free. I’ll drop a few Bob into your fundraiser

Great effort (especially trying to find 6 interesting enough routes from your house!) .
Chipped in a bit there.

Thank you for sharing around your daughter.
would you post an update after every run you do. Would be class to see but I think it’ll keep people interested in donations.

if you want some company on one of your runs lI’m holiday that week but nothing planned
And would happily keep you company if you wanted any

I hope all goes well in every respect. We're near neighbours ... free coaching advice available if needed/wanted.

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated and the kind words.
I will definitely update throughout the week how I’m getting on, I have a feeling the first and last runs could be the easiest.
The 6 in between the majority of them I’ll be doing in West Yorkshire, apart from probably the Saturday which will hopefully be in Boro.

Not wishing to hijack your plans as I’m sure your diary will be packed but could somebody perhaps get in touch with the Gazette or Northern Echo and journal your last run . Will make a cracking publicity angle and rightly give you the credit I feel you deserve .
Easy I know for me to say but perhaps somebody on this board may have a few contacts .
What about a finish at the Riverside ? ( there I go again ) 🤐

Best of luck fella. Daisy is a proper cutie.

Never heard of the condition until reading your opening post.

Donated and my very best wishes for the runs and the future.

When you get to run 5 or 6 you'll be thinking 'why didn't I say 6 half marathons in 6 days?'

Further to Borobarmys comments, Give Gary Phillipson a ring at BBC Radio Tees, he’d love to hear from you I’m sure and, i am also sure you could publicise the donations page on air to a much wider audience to help bring in more donations. It is a brilliant thing to do, well done indeed for such a great cause. Good luck 👍👏👏👏👏

That’s not a bad idea at all, I might just do that. My Girlfriend worked in marketing before Daisy was born so she had sent some emails but I’m not sure what she had heard back.
