I owe an apology

you me and about 20000 other people, lol,,,,genuinly pleased for the lad,,its his all round play which has me most pleased about, the goals are just the icing on the cake so to speak

I always thought he was a footballer, that goal in the away win @ Rotherham gave hints of that, he was never a Warnock forward though & it killed his confidence...
As soon as we started playing football again i had a hunch he'd be more than useful...
Just needed a chance & how has he responded😱

He had 8 goals in over 100 English football league games and his best in Greece was 8 in a full season. There was no indication he would ever come good never mind be top scorer in the league.

I did always say he wasn't as bad as people made out but never in a million years did I think he was capable of what he's doing now.

There was always the talent there. He wouldn't have been so highly rated as a youngster if not. His achilles heel seems to been lacking the mentality to cope with high expectation, from himself and others. Even this season he talks about expecting things to go wrong.

It's the kind of thing I'd sit my kids down and talk about if I hear them using such negative language. It must be very corrosive as a sportsman to have that in your head all the time. Maybe Carrick has been the manager he's always needed.

Is it just me or does he also look to be physically more ready for the Championship? My memory of him before he was loaned or was someone who was quite rangy but someone who was ready to bully, whereas now he looks to have filled out and is a real handful for defenders. Part of that is definitely confidence and attitude, but defenders are not going to get an easy ride.

I have said it a few times but I hope we are busting a gut to get an improved and extended contract in front of him. I would hate the idea of him leaving for free or getting a nominal fee. Strikers are a huge gamble, we have wasted fortunes over the years trying to find one that fits - get him locked in

I think Carrick is exactly the manager he needs. Probably exactly the manager most players need to be honest.

Don't get too carried away when you win, don't get too down when you lose. Just concentrate on doing your job well and everything else will fall into place.

Think it was telling that yesterday Carrick focussed on everything else Akpom has been bringing to the team aside from goals.

I suspect his message to Akpom will be that his overall performance is more important than scoring goals. If he keeps those standards high, enjoys himself, then the goals will come anyway.

I dont think there’s anyone who could genuinely hold up their hands and say they thought he had a future with us, from the very day he signed, up until those first few games when he started scoring..
I don’t think anyone needs to apologise but may be remember, be kind when criticising someone’s poor form… they’re still human and you might look silly when someone brings up your old posts .. 🙂

I think even Akpom's mother is both delighted and surprised with his current form - long may it continue. Has he signed a contract extension yet?
