On the one hand we praise them to the hilt courting their trade investment money etc and on the other they are a staunch and open supporter bordering on ally of Putin and his Russian regime.

Yet unlike other nations that have been castigated or even sanctioned for hold such a position India seem to be immune.

Narendra Modi is also a dangerous leader who has been accused of far right policies in the country.

We are sadly in a world where there are minimal decent governments around the world (to be fair I think this has been an issue for most of history). Power corrupts and sadly however pro I am conceptually of globalisation and the world growing as one. What has actually happened is power being focused in an increasingly smaller group of people. More protected than ever from losses or risk.

Outside the Liberal social democracies of Scandinavia I find it difficult to find many other places to be hopeful about.

India are in Asia though. I would say it's only Europe and North America that has problems with Russia

India will play both sides, to their own advantage.

Much like China do and whilst they also gobble up Russian energy they don’t support Russia in as many others ways as China do.

Japan has problems with Russia, they even have an active territorial dispute with them.
South Korea has problems with them as well.

Kazakhstan has major issues with Russia too, but is unable to act too strongly for fear of becoming another Ukraine.

India is friendly with Russia because India has active and frequently violent territorial disputes with Pakistan and China and they see Russia as a useful counterweight against them and Russia is more than willing to provide the resources and technology that India wants.
It's self-interest.
Pakistan has been a major US ally almost since the moment of its creation, so India can't look to the West for support on their biggest foreign policy issue.

Well yes on the first two. Kazakhstan not as clear cut. I guess I meant over the Ukraine thing. Which is the only issue your average (none Georgian) European will know or care about

Might need to worry about who’s supporting Russia a little closer to home and I don’t mean the fat oath who gave his KGB influenced mate a seat in the Lords.
