Ipswich to be promoted automatically?

What are everyone’s thoughts? I would be surprised personally on that performance.

I thought they were pretty solid and effective but they are miles away from Leicester for quality.

I would prefer them to go up over Leeds though so if they did that would be a bonus.

If they avoid injuries, then sure. Momentum might carry them when the season catches up with their legs.

Leeds will catch them in my opinion. I thought Leeds were better last week than Ipswich were.

But they keep getting results and history tells us that if they get 90 points they'll get promoted. They could play pretty average from now to.the end of the season and still get 90 points. Maybe Leeds' average start will cost them

I’d quite like to see them go up as it’s a great story, but on todays showing, I’m not sure how they are so far ahead in second. We were poor but decimated squad so to be expected, yet aside from the goal, first half was pretty even.
I expected more from them given our injuries tbh, but that said, maybe they had gears to go up that were never needed.

I think Leeds will overtake them if today's performance was typical of them.

They're solid but not massively impressive.

I hope they do get automatic promotion though, it'd be a great story.

Have a nasty feeling that Leeds will overtake them it's a long season.
Love to see them promoted though

I agree with your assessment. Didnt think they were outstanding. Did enough today obviously but didnt think they put us under any sustained pressure and looked like they could concede.

Leeds and Southampton both better and stronger, today’s defeat will be put in perspective when we beat them at Wembley in May😉

Felt it was pretty even up until they scored. They got a lucky deflection for the first goal and after that they were efficient and controlled the game.

They passed the ball out well from the back and played it around us well at times, but I wouldn't say I was massively impressed.

Still think it will be Leeds and Leicester top two.

Didn’t look outstanding today but workmanlike, good passing, fast and had the referee on their side. They play as a team who are clearly very confident and know what each players role is.

How on earth they can go from league 1 to virtual promotion is beyond me.

Not overly impressed with them to be honest. Thought they were a bit billy big time with the time wasting. Deservedly beat us today though.

We were appalling so maybe harsh to criticise them as judging by our own flaccid like behaviour.

I got talking to a few Ipswich fans last night in Boro. Their core squad have been playing together for 18 months, and in that time they said they’ve been lucky with injuries which has given them continuity. That certainly showed.

Away from home they tend to sit in a bit more but at home they tend to play much more attacking and on the front foot.

I thought today they were effective. Solid enough and managed to nick two goals. Beyond picking the ball out of the net, I can’t recall Dieng being called into action as far as saves go.

They’re effective enough to beat a good chunk of championship sides. I see them getting play offs. I think across a whole season, injuries will eventually bite and Leeds will grab the second automatic spot.

They don't need to blow anyone away though, they just need to be exactly what everyone has said on the thread - effective and solid, take their chances and hold on to them 👍

Agreed we seem to think we need to play the most attractive football in the division to go up. history has shown lots of teams luton being the last example of effective hard working teams when organised getting promotion. Regardless of injuries yesterday Ipswich had a better game plan and greater will to win. i dont think you can carry players like Greenwood rogers, Barlaser who haven't the fight and competitiveness to be ultimately successful in this league

No - they will drop off. Good chance of the playoffs though. Leicester Leeds and Southampton will fight it out for top two

There is only 1 good side in this division this year , the rest are pretty average, Ipswich were organised ,but no great shakes , I think our 1st choice 11 would beat them . The 3 that come down will go up

I don't think they will make top 3. I can see a serious wobble coming. Wasn't impressed at all. Then again, I'm continually under impressed by most teams in this league! Its a very competitive league, but seriously lacking in quality.
