I live in a rented house so I quite often get mail for the people who lived here before me.

Today though I got a letter addressed to two people I had never heard of that is clearly a council tax bill, despite my council knowing that I live here.

And also a letter from companies House for a company that apparently has headquarters at my address.

Is this just a mistake by the council and companies House. Or is someone pretending they live and run a company from here?

Don't really know why they would want to do that but it does seem odd.

I was going to ring the council but then another thought occured to me. What if these random people pay my council tax for me. :D
 
Yes, that sounds very much like a scam. Hopefully someone can advise you better than me on what you should do but it seems very suspicious to me.

I’d get onto action fraud
 
Cheers just had a look. It's some morrocan bloke in Saudi. Listed as an internet sales business, started last year. Late filing their accounts.

F***ing hell I'm going to have to spend hours on hold now while I try to speak to someone at the council.

Yes sounds like a bit of identity fraud as I suspected. Lot of it going in. Using the address to get a bank account for that company. I would email the council immediately

Loads of it going on.

A good friend of mine nearly got caught selling a car to Albanian Gangsters who had stolen the identity of a guy down south. Poor bloke knew nothing about it until my mate knocked on his door after the money hadn't processed. They got the car back in the nick of time through a tracker....... it was sat on a container at Felixstowe docks!

I'd keep a close eye on your bank account's and change your passwords. It's about as much as you can do and at least if you do get caught you've been proactive.

Yip........ smacks of Albanian gangsters again. The same MO they used on my mate.
 
Absolutely ridiculous in this day and age you can register a company without providing ID and proof of address.
