Isaiah Jones

I’ll admit he’s the one player we have that takes the game to the opposition they’re the sort of players I love to see.

Without him we looked one dimensional.

Btw look at the abuse Engel got as well -

“He’s never a footballer” was often used on here

I think Jones can be very frustrating on some levels but as others have said, if he didn't and he was Mr Consistent at his best he'd be a Premier League player and a very good one at that. I think he gets a lot of unfair stick and one thing I don't understand is how Adama Traore is by most looked at as a fantastic player and yet he suffered the same incosistenices that Jones does. In fact his stats are far worse in terms of goals scored and I'd think assists too. I just don't get the Jones cirticism. Frustration at times, yes, but anyone who says he's rubbish or a League One player etc needs to have a long hard look at themselves.

To shove a dollop of contention on to the plate:
I know a chap very well, who has been a season cardholder for decades and follows the club everywhere.
He's definitely to the "right" in his politics [I respect him for bewing honest], but he made an interesting comment last week:
Basically, he said, "I think some fans deliberately have a go at Jones because he's black".
I was a little surprised, because it's not the sort of assertion I expected.
He may well have a point?
And maybe the same could be said for Rogers?
My mate could be completely wrong, but given the pathetic racist boos which ring out every time opposing players take-the-knee and some of the racist comments made during games - from a few "fans" in the South Stand, racism against Jones and comments like those of the OP, could have some validity?
Never heard the same or similar said of Coburn?
"To shove a dollop of contention on to the plate"

Or in other words:
"To stir sh1t by posting a load of inappropriate nonsense "

If you genuinely suspect it might be a problem then say so yourself instead of hiding behind a 'friend's question'. You even then try and claim your 'friend' doesn't necessarily believe it themself.

And why choose this thread?
The OP is questioning Jones footballing ability and you are linking that to racism? Ridiculous.

Unfortunately that is something I have not posted on here but long suspected and when I mention ‘agenda’ against certain types of players it is amazing how vociferous some of the protests are.
Agreed.
It was something I hadn't really thought about until my mate raised it.(y)

Btw I said the same about Ashley fletcher.. an awful player as well

Similar assertions were implied.

His record since he left is..,

2018Sunderland (loan)16(2)
2021–Watford3(0)
2022New York Red Bulls (loan)7(0)
2022–2023Wigan Athletic (loan)26(2)
2023–Sheffield Wednesday (loan)20(0)
I know off topic but jeez I’ve just looked at his stats and they are unreal. Most strikers probably aim to get 20-30 goals in a season. His aim must be 30 in a lifetime.

Regarding the Traore statistical comparison, I think it says more about the perception between an explosive, brick shíthouse and a player who is unfairly seen as more languid.
Fireworks or drone display. One gets the heart racing while the other is about finesse.

I’ve never rated him but that is truely awful. Some agent though.

I do rate Jones however so maybe that only makes me half racist according to the anonymous acquaintance contributing to this thread.

Its a valid question from a long-time Boro fan.
Its not a statement he made.
There is a difference.
Think about it.

he said, "I think some fans deliberately have a go at Jones because he's black".

That is not a question, it's a statement.
Think about it.

Is it? In my time following football there certainly has been a tendency to focus on some players by crowds to either mock or jeer, guess what the common factor is in those players?
I had a think about the above , and maybe I was harsh towards Boro the club and most of its fans, but I've definitely seen the tendency at England matches, also individuals or small groups at Boro matches have stood at for being exceedingly racist and yes I have called them out.

Someone levelled this at me a few years ago well they implied it when I said I didn’t rate britt that he was dialling it in and we needed better ad he was basically a flat track bully that flattered to deceive.

Btw I stand by that.

So using racism to dismiss criticism is a dangerous step to go down.
I would never have you down as having any agenda because from your posts you come across as a big Boro fan.

I agree you do have to be careful but over the years I’ve seen this OTT criticism of Traore (headless chicken), Jones (for anything) and recently Bangura (for diving) and it does make you wonder why apparently good players get targeted for the relentless campaigning drip feed criticism that you sometimes see on here. All players get a degree of criticism as you would expect but I think some are noticeably singled out.

It shouldn’t be a surprise really when the ‘taking the knee’ was run out of town by some of our fans.

But that’s my point I was accused of knee jerk earlier but let’s not forget the club stopped taking the knee after a black player (britt of I remember correctly) said that we should drop it as it was lip service at best.

So I think it’s important to give balance as well.

I like him - he’s definitely frustrating sometimes but he offers far more in terms of the positive than the negative, and don’t forget we got him for next to nowt so when he does move on there should be a nice little profit in it for us.
