It’s a Sin C4

Just watched them all over the last couple of nights.

Really well shot and great soundtrack. Very moving too and scary to think some of the attitudes towards aids and homosexuality were prevalent as recently as the 80s/early 90s

Watching them old skool, each Friday at 9:00pm. Watched the second one last night. Even though I was a teenager in 1983, I had forgotten all the ignorance and myths that existed at the time. Really well produced piece as always by Russell T.

Lots of 80s themes and events ripe for another dramatic revisit I think; nuclear war threat, miners strike and acid house etc...

Would love for a similar style drama set around nuclear war threat in the UK. Russell T Davies is one of the best in his business, I’m sure he could muster something up.

A Russell T. Davies and Jeremy Deller written and designed TV series would certainly grab my attention as the themes mentioned so far flag both of them.

He called it years and years after the band tha main guy in it’s a sin, olly Alexander is the lead singer of...

it was a very moving story and really smoked my eyes up in the end...

I was a young teenager also and I remember the attitudes that most of us had towards homosexuality and aids... I will admit that I’ve learned over the years to be more accepting of difference and less judgemental...

This one is next on my list after reading excellent reviews. I can just about remember the tombstone advert as an 8/9 year old.

I remember giant headlines in the Sun "GAY PLAGUE" after Rock Hudson died and it came out he was homosexual. It was a shock to a lot of people in the UK, because he was not a stereotype of a homosexual either John Inman or Village People. Most people believed you could get aids from using a coffee cup etc. People also forgot many UK people became infected from receiving blood that had been bought from the USA and donated by homeless drug users for cash. Others who were hetrosexual became infected by female prostitutes who had to sell themselves in some cases for anal sex.

my thoughts about its a sin are on this thread ...

Just watched the first 3 episodes with Mrs V and we'll finish it tomorrow night. I remember that time so well - such ignorance from people. On reflection, I must have always been a lefty-liberal type because I have really sharp memories of being absolutely outraged at the depths of the public's ignorance in their intolerant and ill-informed attitudes. People I knew who were saying at the time it was God's judgement, and who then denied ever saying such stuff afterwards.

The series is very good indeed but then I wouldn't expect anything else from RTD (y)

If it’s any consolation I was a complete wreck after finishing it last weekend
Tried to get the wife to watch it but she wasn’t bothered, think it’s worth watching a second time just to convince someone else to watch.

Having grown up in the 90s I’ve never really learnt or been aware of what actually happened, think I’ll take some time to read up on it and have a deep dive on YouTube. Saw a tweet earlier that summed it up perfectly, not to just stop at the end of episode 5.

I binged it last weekend on demand. I’ll probably watch it again in a few weeks. Its affected me deeply as I grew up gay in the 80s and (still) struggle with homophobia. Thankfully I was too young to be out shagging a different bloke every weekend. If I’dbeen 10-15 years older it might have been me...
