Interesting how he has managed to play himself into the team at Brighton.

Reported that it is better at playing out from the back under pressure than Sanchez.

Just from reading the live text on the bbc website, looks like he has made a couple of good saves already.

He moved from Wynyard to the south coast last summer. People always assume its only footballing reasons that contribute to an upturn in form, and it may be here, but it may just as easily be that he's a lot more settled now he has his family with him down south instead of commuting and has simply found his mojo.
Wow that’s some commute!

We’d be stupid not to have a chat with him about coming home if we get promoted.

He's been unbelievable, played once in 4 years for Brighton, now a first team regular, some change in mindset that. Good luck to the lad. Think carrick would like him too.

He’s doing very well for himself. A starting goalkeeper for a top 6 team in the Prem who would have thought it. I was thinking De Zerbi may go out and buy a keeper in the summer but maybe not now, he loves Steele.

Well done to him. I always thought he made his debut 142 times for us and wasn’t in the least bit bothered when he left but fair to play and hope he continues to make the most of it. 👏👏

If he continued his form then I can't see Brighton wanting to let him go. It sounds like he's more settled there now as well.

I always thought he had the ability but he seems to have always lacked a bit of self belief. And goalkeeper is the one position where you need to have unbreakable confidence. It's been the same everywhere he's went, once he has a dip in form, he starts to believe all of the criticism and can't get out of that negative head space.

I hope his form continues and he can go on to play some European football next season. That would be some achievement for a player who was struggling to get into a Sunderland side in freefall just a not so long ago.

He was always very good with his feet.

Made quite a lot of errors though. He was very young mind.

The game has obviously moved on quite a lot in 10 years. Suppose not only is he older and more experienced which helps, but his skill set is a much better fit for the way a lot of sides play at the top level now.

A really nice bloke to boot. I used to chat with him fairly regularly a couple of years ago, he was always extremely humble. I remember him saying that Potter was the best manager he'd ever played under, and he felt like a new man playing under him - something he'd never experienced with any other coach he'd played for. It sounds like his renaissance started under him and he has continued it under De Zerbi. Credit to him for how well he is doing.

It's amazing how many here thought 'he always had the ability'. They weren't out in force in January.
Weren't they? The post in January had a mix of people saying that he didn't have the ability, and people saying that he did but didn't have the desire/struggled with the mental side of the game. Just like this one. And almost everyone of them is being proven wrong now, including me. He clearly has the talent and demonstrating growth in the mental side of the game.

I can barely remember him playing for us now. He was still fairly young and inexperienced when he was here. GK is a tough position and it's easier to look bad than good with just a couple of mistakes. He's doing so well because of his ball playing ability which is something that wouldn't have been a consideration when he was with us. Obviously his all roung goalkeeping has been good as well. He's displaced a good keeper in Sanchez to get the starting role. Fair play to him.
