Joggers a danger to us all ?

In these times of health and safety joggers going past not keeping their distance snot sweat and muscous coming off them with no concern but themselves. I have no problem with them running in the countryside but in towns and cities no.

Yup. Ban jogging now or even lock them all up. Or just cross the road if you see a jogger and don't get so angry about it. It's your responsibility to keep yourself safe, not the joggers.

I reckon most runners/joggers will be giving other road/pavement users a wide berth (2m)+. I'd say that's been my experience. The trouble is, as with going to the supermarket/shops, there are those who don't seem to understand it. I was in Boots the other day, and an old lady actually pushed past me (not just close.... but to the extent that we were actually touching) - I wondered whether she might/could have mild dementia or something, and simply didn't understand the guidelines that were being suggested.

It's a very strange comment. Social distances relies on all individuals conforming.

Not really. When I'm out I am constantly checking if people are around me or if there is a risk coming up. Just like you do when driving or cycling.

If everyone kept themselves safe staying 2m away it would automatically keep others safe and 2m away. Why when walking would you not pay attention? That's not keeping yourself safe. You see a runner and they don't look like crossing over then cross yourself.

Exactly this. As drivers we mostly grasp the concept of avoiding collisions and so it should be a lot easier for two people who are on foot to do so.
If I was jogging I'd be doing any overtaking on the road and if that wasn't possible then I'd walk until it was safe to overtake.

I run a lot....and I am also very mindful that I'm sweating. I give all other pedestrians a huge wide berth. I'm constantly crossing roads and even running in the middle of roads to make sure that people walking don't need to. It's handy there's not much traffic in that sense. I've never noticed anyone else running not doing the same either...

There is always the odd idiot who doesn't do as you do. The OP has encountered one and if concerned by it. 99% of runners stick by the rules. 100% of the runners I have seen have done.

Surely this is a satirical post?

I've been doing daily runs and give pedestrians a wide berth, if anything they are putting themselves in your path needlessly e.g when crossing the road and they can see you coming but continue to cross rather than wait 10 seconds and you will be past them so no need to be anywhere near each other - sounds bizarre but see it happening all the time. I cross the road when I see someone ahead where possible, but often pedestrians are in groups and take up the entire road and grass verge (with dogs and kids, kids on bikes) occasionally even a parent on the road on a bike and a young kid on the path, other side of road is taken so where do you move to? Or pedestrian on path with dog either off leash or on a 20m extension leash blocking the entire grass area.

Just ban pedestrians, and dogs. Certainly more of the infractions I have seen have been drivers or pedestrians, rather than runners or cyclists. People should learn to be single file if they're going to be out in a tribe of 6 or 7, as it will make any interactions a lot easier...

So are most people, but when someone else doesn't conform it can put others at risk. For example when I was out the other day negotiating a movement past some other people on a local path a jogger came from nowhere from behind between both parties. Probably not bad for me as the passed quickly from behind, but almost went into the other people and there was absolutely nowhere they could go. This isn't a comment on joggers as a whole, haven't had any issue with anyone else.

Can you pick up the virus if someone jogs past you?
Depends which stuff you read. I saw something about the vapour trail of a cyclist that shocked me simply because, if it were correct, you'd need to pull out to overtake them at a distance you'd never normally consider. It was like two trucks overtaking on a gradient if you were only a bit faster than the rider ahead.

Presumably the ‘vapour’ would have to be inhaled and get into the respiratory system.
Just no idea on the likelihood of that happening?

It’s about courtesy and respecting the guidelines, that applies to all parties, I have encountered one problem on a footpath with a jogger not being patient and wanting to pass where there was no real passing place, I’ve seen families walking 4 abreast on pavements making passing or crossing difficult, I try and exercise early mornings so it’s quiet and not many pedestrians about.

Depends doesn't it, I'm a jogger and I always keep my distance. Some pedestrians make it extremely difficult, walking in the centre of paths or FaceTiming/chekcing twitter and constantly veering over the road.

So no, joggers are no more of a risk then others. Also they are healthier so less likely to be affected themselves by the virus

Must admit 99.9% of the people I see (incl joggers and cyclists) are pretty courteous around social distancing

Found this - in short, no need to worry.

Dr Sarah Jarvis discussed the matter on Channel 5 and reassured those worried about a possible spread from runners that it would in fact take around 50 runners breathing heavily running past you for a person to get the infection.
