John W Henry’s Response to Liverpool Supporters

He's only come out and said something because he realises this will negatively impact him. No other reason, so no not 'fair play to him'.

He has missed a huge apology in this, an apology to every football fan in England whose clubs faced an existential crisis. If he really felt sorry for what he had done he would apologise to everyone, but, no, he has just apologised to his 'legacy customers', because they are the ones that can most easily hound him out. This statement was all about repairing damage to himself, the apology is hollow.

There should be a punishment but there won't be as football is just as morally bankrupt as our government

Those 6 owners need punishing, however it'll be difficult to punish the owners without it having an effect on the manager, players, fans - stakeholders who had nothing to do with the ESL.

Interesting how it pans out now.

Be interested to know if any of those “external influences” were the same large, bald-headed gentlemen who kindly helped out with the transfer negotiations over Steven Gerrard’s transfer to Chelsea.

It's apparent that it was the owners who were behind this and so it is desperately unfair to punish the players and fans now that the ESL is dead in the water.
I'm not sure how you can punish the owners and not the clubs to be honest. Given that they have clearly been deceitful towards the other PL clubs during meetings and have used insider information as part of building the proposal for the ESL then it may be better to sanction them as being 'not fit and proper' and exclude them from having any say in the governance of the league going forward.
Hopefully Johnson is true to his word and we have a review of football governance in this country that will make it perfectly clear to these 'businessmen' that they have to comply to the rules or get out.
I think it may be very difficult for many if not all of them to continue their ownership of these clubs.

Of course the clubs should still be punished. Clubs, mostly lower league, are punished frequently for the mistakes of their dodgy owners. It’s not fair on fans, but it never is and maybe this would help fans of the 6 try to dislodge these greedy vampires.

Why should the top teams get away with a plan that could have crippled football clubs up and down the land when other clubs get punished for decisions that largely only impact their own club?

They'll all still go behind the Premier leagues back again and come back with a revamped ESL (one that's not closed shop) ...and get their mega bucks eventually. Just without UEFA running it. ..think needs to be a rule in football any clubs being clandestine without knowledge of other clubs or the fans are thrown out of all official EPL, uefa and fifa competitions or something like that. A punishment that would make them think twice.

But its the fans who suffer if the boardroom mess up the finances & the club end up going in to administration, look at Wigan last season

No come down hard on em now, make an example that nio matter how big they (think) they are football is bigger & you're going to pay the price & for future warnings too

He either doesn't understand football or doesn't care. Apology aside, failing to understand that if you damage one club you damage every supporter, simply means that he will go on and make the same "mistakes" again and again.

The owners of all 6 clubs need to be sanctioned in some way. I would like to see UEFA ban them from european competition for a couple of years.

I would like to see the EPL agree not to sanction, but the distribution of money is re-negotiated to avoid sanctions.

“Tell the plebs you’re sorry and they’ll have forgotten about it by the weekend”!
These clubs need hammering and now but the cynic in me thinks they’ll get away with it unfortunately!
Said the same on another thread. I would deduct them 20 points for start of next season. Or as someone else suggested take 20 points off them now.

For all the fuss, these are all privately owned businesses. How the fu.ck could government or anybody else stop them operating in whatever leagues they choose?
Those wishing Gibbo away have probably changed their opinions over the last few days

Not sure how they can get sanctions now that (most) of the sides have backed down.

The clubs need (as an absolute minimum) to lose all voting rights in the PL and all Euro committees for something like ten years.

You could reform without them but I don't think that is feasible.
