Jon Venables granted parole hearing

It’s only a hearing, it doesn’t mean he’ll be released. Which is no doubt how it’ll be presented by the gutter press.
As far as I can see all outlets are reporting that he has been granted a hearing and if successful could be released this year/within days/ before Christmas. Not sure what else you are expecting them to say really.

Not to get into it too heavily but isn’t it the case that the other one was released a while ago. It’s only venables that has been the issue with multiple re offending incidents and breach of his parole conditions.

For me even if he didn't reoffend I don't think he should ever be released, some things are unforgivable

The question is - has he been successfully rehabilitated? If the answer is no then he cannot be released. From the outside it sounds like the answer is very much no.

Is he still screwed up because of his pre-offence childhood, or because of his subsequent incarceration?

It's not a case of locking him up yet again and just waiting, and then expecting a sudden magic improvement. He obviously needs some kind of help.

As previously mentioned a hearing is just that. An opportunity for his solicitor to argue he has completed this programme and been making progress in addressing the areas of his thinking and behaviour which led to his recall. The MoJ sec of state rep plus the probation Service and prison service will offer their assessments and if the risk he poses cannot be managed in the community he will stay where he is. It's highly unlikely he would released and this is more than likely just an opportunity to remind the parole board he is still around and looking to progress towards release which will almost certainly involve a move to a lower category prison, then open conditions before any release. He will also be monitored more intently than 99% of the prison population and the bar is so much higher for him to progress to release. So all in all, I think we can rest easy... He's not getting anywhere near a release yet.

The issue of rehabilitation is clouded by the overtly sexual nature of the murder not being included in the original prosecution. AIUI, this means they don't draw a direct link between the murder and his later convictions for CSA image offences; they are seen as two separate things, rather than an ongoing, lifelong pattern of offending.

The Daily Mail and The Sun will be blaming lefty lawyers for this outrage (n)

I'm not actually sure that there is anyone to 'blame'. Isn't it just the criminal justice system following its normal course?

No mention of lawyers in any of the reports that I can see, lefty or otherwise. Or of an outrage.

There are plenty of blue ticks on Twitter/X claiming that woke do-gooder lefties are trying to get him released. Shows how far it's fallen under Musk that it now almost makes the Mail look respectable.
