Playing as a centre half will extend his career at this level by a year or two. With most teams playing 1 striker (not normally an Andy Carroll type either!), he exudes class. His ability to pass out from that position sets him apart. It's great that he is showing he can play in a flat back 4 and could obviously play in a 3 easily.

Carrick was asked about this during the pre match presser. He fully agreed.
The 'role' of a modern day CB has massively changed. You need to be a calm mind and ability to play out from the back. Howson has both qualities in abundance. He can also comfortably step into CM from a CB position.
I still think his best position is CM. I think he walks into a CM role ahead of Barlaser to partner Hackney or O'Brien. Also I really hope we secure O'Brien for next season. He's getting better every week.

Can play anywhere first 5 yards and pass he has a picture in his head you can't teach that. Proper footballer is Jonny
