Good to see you back posting mate and agree with this. It’s a real pleasure to watch someone of his quality in an England shirt. He was absolutely brilliant last night, a joy to watch.
It's great to see a player so young excelling on the world stage, even more so when he's English.
I'm excited to see how he gets on with England at the Euros next summer.
Foden has had it a few times. Rooney did too, despite being a forward.I’m glad the Zidane comparisons are coming thick and fast! The Gazza comparisons don’t seem to work out.. who was the last one? Jack Wilshere?
No question about that. Rangers had a great team and are a massive club. Playing in Scotland isn’t what the very best do though. Gazza would have been a rich man then and no doubt had offers in England.Gazza went to Rangers because of the money on show. Rangers had some class players back then. They weren’t a 3rd rate team.
He went to, and stayed at, Rangers because he knew he'd be way better than everyone in the league and idolised by the fans. Can't blame him, but he proved nothing. Celtic were crap in the 90s as well, so it really wasn't a big test.No question about that. Rangers had a great team and are a massive club. Playing in Scotland isn’t what the very best do though. If he wanted to really test himself again he should have gone back before he did. That said, I know a lot of Rangers fans and they all love him.
English Players went to rangers to avoid the heysel ban that’s why they acquired the players they did hately butcher Stevens etcNo question about that. Not in 1994 they didn't.English Players went to rangers to avoid the heysel ban that’s why they acquired the players they did hately butcher Stevens etc
I'd be very disappointed if Bellingham doesn't have a better career in terms of success, consistent performances and longevity than Gazza. In fact I think Saka, Foden and maybe even Rashford have the sheer ability to eclipse him, they probably won't all do it thoughGazza was a great player from late eighties until spring 1991 (and was my boyhood England hero), and then had a half decent Euro 96 whilst dominating the Scottish league. At that time, it was more highly regarded than it is now, but it was still well behind most of Europe's big leagues and he played for by far the best team. He was gifted but players like Bellingham could/should easily eclipse his achievements in the game.
Exactly. He could continue boozing and still be the best player most games. He went to, and stayed at, Rangers because he knew he'd be way better than everyone in the league and idolised by the fans. Can't blame him, but he proved nothing. Celtic were crap in the 90s as well, so it really wasn't a big test.
The thing is no one will 'eclipse' Gazza-mania because it was a moment in time that cannot be recreated. England have had countless players since Gazza who've (easily) eclipsed him in their achievements. The thing about him being England's 'most talented ever player' will probably never go away completely, because he played in an era that wasn't all about pace/guile/determination/athleticism and more about nutmegging a fat centre half in front of the noisiest terrace. And crying when you get booked to show you care.I'd be very disappointed if Bellingham doesn't have a better career in terms of success, consistent performances and longevity than Gazza. In fact I think Saka, Foden and maybe even Rashford have the sheer ability to eclipse him, they probably won't all do it though
Rooney’s break through tournament in 2004 surely eclipsed Gazza’s Italia 90 moment. Rooney ended with a much better career despite his own issues too. That is just one example. The thing is no one will 'eclipse' Gazza-mania because it was a moment in time that cannot be recreated. from a public mania perspective I don't think it did.Rooney’s break through tournament in 2004 surely eclipsed Gazza’s Italia 90 moment. Rooney ended with a much better career despite his own issues too. That is just one example.
England didn't actually have a good tournament though, and the legacy of that tournament is incomparable. Rooney also went on to consistently fail to deliver at major tournaments despite a fairly long career. Even Gazza had Euro 96 as a sort of 'renaissance'. Not many England players had played in two major semi-finals (until the Southgate era, and even then it can only be a few).Rooney’s break through tournament in 2004 surely eclipsed Gazza’s Italia 90 moment.
