Julio Arca

Good luck Julio. Be interesting to see what Shields can do next season with a smaller players budget.

It’s a good sign teams like Scarborough going up have been really competitive (well done Jonny Greening) so I think they’ll be ok. Average crowd will be one of the better in the division I’d imagine.

Didn’t he quit to move on to a bigger club?

Left by "mutual consent".

Didn't sound like he had anything lined up from the interview.

Kevin Phillips:

"I feel that this is the right time for me to depart, for a number of reasons.

To be manager of South Shields has been an amazing experience and I’m very grateful for everything Geoff has done during my time at the club.

I’ve given my heart and soul to this club and I’m disappointed to leave, but I’ve been in football a long time and I know things can change very quickly.

There are lots of different factors behind this mutual decision, but I’d like to place on record my thanks to everyone connected to the club and I wish whoever comes in next all the success in the world.

I was brought here to do a job and I did it, and although I’d have loved to have taken it further, circumstances have changed and I’ll be supporting the club in the next phase of its journey from afar.”

Whilst Phillips got them promoted fairly easily in the end, the football wasn't always great especially given how Shields were the only full time club in the division and had a huge budget to bring lots of experienced EFL pros. Gary Liddle in particular was brilliant whenever I've seen them play.

If the season stretched a bit longer Warrington Town likely would have caught them. I thought they'd go for a more experienced non league manager this time round but hopefully Julio will prove a good appointment.
