Middlesbrough are set for an interesting few weeks ahead, as Neil Warnock looks to build his squad for the new Championship season.

Boro finished 17th in the second-tier standings last term, in what was a hugely frustrating league campaign for the club’s supporters.

Warnock has confirmed that he will remain in charge of the club ahead of the new season, having previously only taken charge on a temporary basis following the departure of Jonathan Woodgate.

We take a look at the latest transfer rumours at Middlesbrough ahead of their season opener against Watford on Friday 11th September.

Middlesbrough are reportedly interested in signing West Brom forward Kenneth Zohore, as Neil Warnock looks to bolster his attacking options.

Zohore struggled for consistent game time with the Baggies last season as they were promoted into the Premier League under the management of Slaven Bilic.

But with Bilic now preparing for life in the top-flight, it seems likely that Zohore will fall further down the pecking order in his plans, which could boost Middlesbrough’s chances of landing his signature.

Sam Morsy

According to Football Insider, Middlesbrough are keen on signing Wigan Athletic midfielder Sam Morsy.

The Latics have lost a number of players this summer, after they were relegated from the Championship, after being deducted points for entering administration.

Morsy is one of the few that remain with the club, but he is now being linked with a move to the Riverside before the new league campaign gets under way.

Ben Gibson

It had previously been reported by journalist Alan Nixon that Middlesbrough had registered their interest in signing former defender Ben Gibson from Burnley.

But it has recently been revealed that the defender is set to join Norwich City on a season-long loan deal, with the option being there for the Canaries to make that switch a permanent one.

Middlesbrough have been interested in signing Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Dillon Phillips according to journalist Alan Nixon.

He also revealed that the Addicks are looking for a fee in the region of £1million, and there hasn’t been any further progress with that deal since.

Middlesbrough eyeing move for midfield enforcer
Middlesbrough are weighing up a move for Wigan Athletic man Sam Morsy as we head into the final month of the transfer window, according to Football Insider.

This skewed window ends at the beginning of October and by that point, the season in this country will be well underway for the professional game.

It’s an exciting time for fans and players alike, then, and there’s nothing quite like seeing matches being played and also having transfers to discuss.

For Wigan, though, it’s all been about exits this summer transfer window and it could well be the case Morsy is the next to leave.

Always suspicious of that site; I know it comes up in a Google News search, but it's not really a news site.

It reports:
What other sites are saying
What fans are saying on social media.

I don't know if they have any reporters or sources of information of their own, or whether it's one bloke sat at a computer trawling the internet. Maybe that's what sports journalism is now?

Its not google news.

Incidentally you might have noticed articles recently in the Gazette / Yorkshire Post / Northern Echo / Hartlepool Mail, which have quoted numerous blogs / vlogs / sports tv channels, etc as sources.

The club are not going to report or comment on agents and "anonymous" sources. Those in the game and friends of players will trickle out on twitter, facebook, in media platforms of all shapes and sizes - but you cant dismiss it all or rely on one source to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Thats the nature of todays game.

When an article says "it is reported that.....have made an enquiry about....", or "the .... has been told that ....have been tracking..."
or "according to......, ......are interested in signing....."

Its about understanding what motivates players / agents / clubs / etc - each have their own agenda and will get out there whatever they like to acheive their aims.

At least it makes for good discussion and speculation. (y)

Would have thought Norwich would be a good fit for Gibson. Must be one if the favourites to go up & they'll have more brass to off-set Burnley losses.

Find their recruitment a bit strange, do they really have a plan or are they just stocking up in case they lose some of their so called stars towards the end of the window. Certainly wouldn’t swap managers with them.

I'm afraid you are right. Time was, when a story was rumored on here, we'd all ask for a source. However, we've now got the sources down to our level, and they get their news from us!

As you say, no harm in discussion or speculation though.

Favourites to go back up for you?

The world's definitely gone t+ts-up!

We are in for centre half Nat Phillips on loan from Liverpool but face competition from 3 other clubs at least

Does that mean Natt was brought up on Teesside ?
Son of the legend Jimmy Phillips ! Surely he will want to follow in his fathers footsteps .

I would imagine he'll have been brought up in the North West after Phillips moved on from Boro. Was it Bolton he signed for after leaving us? Similar to Pearsy Jnr. he won't have ever seen his old man play for Boro, too young.
